Apple is reportedly planning to increase its production capacity in India and ship all Made-in-India iPhone units to the US in a bid to avoid higher tariffs that the US government has imposed on imports from China. The US government has imposed a tariff of up to 145 percent on imports from China and that of 26 percent on imports from India.
Despite its push for shipping more Made-in-India iPhone units in the US, a new report says that the company is likely to manufacture its first foldable iPhone and the 20th anniversary edition iPhone models in China.
Apple to still rely on China for foldable iPhone, 20th anniversary iPhones
- In the latest iteration of his Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman wrote that Apple will not be able to make its first foldable iPhone and its 20th anniversary iPhone model, which is likely to feature a ‘glass centric design’, in India.

- Furthermore, Gurman also wrote that he doesn’t expect Apple to manufacture all the iPhone units sold in the US in India by 2027.
Apple won’t be able to make every US iPhone in India by 2027. I don’t see a scenario where 20 year anniversary iPhones – foldable & glass centric model – are made in India. Apple has never produced a major new design outside China for the first go-around. https://t.co/M40D8OtmAF
