Garmin to launch its Vivofit fitness tracker on August 7th in exclusive partnership with Flipkart, priced at Rs 9,990

“Unlike smartwatches which hardly last a day or two on a single charge, the VivoFit can stay alive for more than a year”

Fitness is a massive segment in the west, but it’s not as if Indians aren’t fitness-conscious. Technology and fitness also have great synergies, and that reflects not only in the apps domain, but also in hardware like fitness trackers. Brands have just started becoming aggressive in this category in India, and popular GPS device maker Garmin is the latest one to board the bandwagon. It will be launching its fitness tracker, dubbed as the VivoFit, going on sale starting August 7th exclusively on Flipkart.

The Garmin VivoFit can monitor your steps, calories, sleep and heart rate (via a separate heart rate monitor). Unlike many other bands which don’t have any displays, it features an always-on display that also shows the time along with your fitness data. Thanks to the its water resistance, you can wear it comfortably at all times, be it during rains or while swimming.

The band wirelessly syncs all the data with a compatible device via the Garmin Connect app with the push of a button. The app also helps you in tracking your daily activities and rewards you with badges if you achieve your daily goals, which it sets based on your lifestyle. You can also join the community and participate in various challenges. Unlike smartwatches which hardly last a day or two on a single charge, the VivoFit can stay alive for more than a year.

The Garmin VivoFit is priced at Rs 9,990 for black and slate hues. You can also buy the band in colours like green, blue and purple available as a set for Rs 1,990. Garmin has also said that the first 500 customers will get a set of three colour bands for free. While there aren’t many players in the fitness tracking space in India, the VivoFit will still be facing some heat from the recently-launched GOQii band, Sony SmartBand (review) and Samsung Gear Fit (first impressions).
