Gigabyte Z890 Aorus Tachyon Ice motherboard sets DDR5 overclocking records: details

Highlights
  • Professional overclocker HiCookie has achieved this.
  • The V-color 24GB Manta Xfinity RGB DDR5 memory module has been used.
  • The Tachyon Ice branding refers to the motherboard’s white colour (not cooling capability)

Gigabyte, a major manufacturer of laptops and PC components has achieved a world record in DDR5 speeds using its overclocked Z890 Aorus Tachyon Ice motherboard. This surpasses the motherboard’s previous achievement which was crossing the 10,600 MT/s barrier. The company has shared the latest test results including the DDR5 memory speed and 3DMark CPU profile scores. You can find those results below and also learn how this was achieved.

Gigabyte Z890 world record

Z890 Aorus Tachyon Ice motherboard with DDR5-12726 RAM has pulled off a memory frequency of 12726 MT/s (million transfers per second).

Professional overclocker HiCookie is the person who scored this. He reportedly used a solo 24GB Manta Xfinity RGB DDR5 SDRAM with 6,363 MHz frequency (from V-Color) along with an underclocked Intel Core Ultra (Series 2) 285K CPU at 419.57 MHz. Only two of its cores were active.

The processor has Liquid Nitrogen cooling but the Tachyon Ice branding refers to the motherboard’s white colour (not cooling capability).

HiCookie praises the Gigabyte motherboard and V-Color RAM for this feat. He highlights the following aspects of this test:

  • There was no cold boot bug or cold bug.
  • Successfully overclocked XMP (O.C) DDR5 to 10,000 MHz
  • Pushed LN2 DDR5 beyond 12,600 MHz
  • It was a full pot overclocking with A-die memory at high frequencies
  • It was also a full pot overclocking with non-binary M-die memory at high frequencies
  • PG (Power Good signal) mode

Besides the DDR5 overclocking, the motherboard has also garnered the following scores on a well-known benchmarking platform:

The Z890 series was launched last October and since then we have seen it surpass benchmarks twice. It’s great news for enthusiasts and if you are one, stay tuned for more such posts here.
