Google will host its I/O 2025 conference later this month. At its annual event, the company is expected to share details about its products and services, including Android, Chrome, Google Cloud, Gemini and Android XR, to name a few. In addition to these, the company is also expected to delve into Android’s new design language at the two-day event.
As it turns out, Google had accidentally published the blog post detailing Android’s new design language ahead of schedule but later removed the post. Folks over at 9to5Google were able to capture some relevant details and images in this leak, which we’ll discuss below:
Google leaks details about Android’s Material 3 Expressive design
- Google accidentally published a lengthy blog post explaining Android’s Material 3 Expressive or M3 Expressive design. While the company was quick to take it down, it was archived by Wayback Machine via 9to5Google.
- In the blog post, Google notes that its Material 3 Expressive design focuses on the use of colour, shape, size, motion and containment for making a product more usable.
“These design aspects are also fundamental to what makes a product more usable by drawing attention to what matters in the interface: Making key actions stand out, and grouping like elements together,” Google wrote in the blog post.
- Furthermore, the tech giant wrote that the new Material 3 Expressive design not only focuses on the factors that draw people to a product but it also lays emphasis on usability in a way that helps users’spot’ actions on each screen and navigate more quickly’.
- The Material 3 Expressive design also removes ‘age effects in fixation times’. This in turn led users over 45 years of age to spot important interactive elements on the screen as fast as their younger counterparts.
- Lastly, the company wrote that its new design is also easy to use for users with varying movements and visual abilities.
“Larger buttons, high-contrast visual containment, and other key attributes of expressive design make interfaces and more usable for everyone,” the company added.
It is worth mentioning that Google I/O 2025 will take place between May 20th and May 21st at the Shoreline Amphitheatre in Mountain View, California. Ahead of Google I/O 2025, the company will host a special session of its The Android Show to talk about the updates coming to its Android OS.
