Google’s Gemini assistant now works across multiple apps using a single prompt

Highlights
  • Google is rolling out multi-extension prompts for Gemini across the web, Android phones and iPhones.
  • Google is also rolling out image, video and file support for Gemini Live.
  • Google is rolling out Deep Research access to Gemini mobile app.

Google has announced that its artificial intelligence (AI) assistant can now perform tasks across multiple apps using a single prompt. This new feature was announced at the Galaxy Unpacked 2025 event where Samsung launched its Galaxy S25 series of smartphones.

Gemini gets multi-extension prompts

  • According to the details shared by Google, users can now ask Gemini to complete tasks across apps, such as YouTube, Google Maps and Gmail by coupling their query in a single prompt.
  • The company also said that the Samsung Galaxy S25 series smartphone owners can use the similar feature across Samsung’s first-party apps such as Calendar Notes and Reminder.
  • For understanding, while looking for high-protein lunch ideas, Android users can ask Gemini for recipes and then save them on Samsung Notes or Google Keep. Similarly, users can also pull up their latest concert tickets from email and them set a reminder for the same event.
  • It is worth mentioning that this feature builds on top of Gemini’s existing extensions feature that was announced back at Google I/O 2024 in May last year. Extensions enable Gemini to work across apps such as Google Drive, Maps and Docs. Beyond Google’s family of apps, Gemini extensions are also available for Spotify, WhatsApp.
  • As far as availability is concerned, Gemini’s multi-extension prompts are available to users on the web, Android smartphones and iPhones.

Gemini Live gets better

  • Google has also added support for images, videos and files to Gemini Live.
  • For the unversed, Google had introduced Gemini Live, a more conversational version of Gemini, in August last year. At the time, users could interact with it using text and voice-based prompts. Today’s update changes that.
  • Now Android users can images, files and YouTube videos to their conversations with Gemini Live to get answers to their queries.
  • Google says that it has started rolling out this feature to the Samsung Galaxy S24 series, Samsung Galaxy S25 series and Pixel 9 series smartphones today. It plans to expand this feature to more Android smartphones in the coming weeks.

Lastly, Google also announced that it will start rolling out access to Deep Research in the Gemini mobile app to Gemini Advanced subscribers later this week. This will help users get advanced search results, one that takes hours, in a couple of minutes. This feature was announced last month.
