Google, back in March this year, had announced a feature that would enable users to use their screenshots for keeping track of places to visit in the Google Maps app. Now, almost a month-and-a-half later, the company has finally started rolling out this feature to the iOS users. Here, you can learn how the feature works and how you can make use of it.
Save places in Google Maps using screenshots
- For the unversed, Google Maps’ new feature uses Gemini’s capabilities to find the names of places in screenshots captured by a user and then save them to a list for easy access.
- According to the details shared by Google, places that a user saves using this method will appear on the map.
- The user can use this list to keep track of all the spots that they want to visit in a place. They can also share this list with the people travelling with them.
- At the time of announcing this feature earlier this year, Google had said that it would first be available in the Google Maps app on iOS and then to Android users.
- Now, the company has finally started making the ability to save places in Google Maps using screenshots available in the iOS app.
How to save a place in Google Maps using screenshots on an iPhone
Google has shared a step-by-step guide to help iPhone users use this feature:
Step 1: Download the latest version of the Google Maps app.
Step 2: Open the updated app and tap the You tab at the bottom of the app.
Step 3: Tap the ‘Try it out‘ banner in the screenshot list that appears at the top.
Step 4: Now you’ll see a request to allow Google Maps to access your photos. Select the conditions of access.

Step 5: Now, Google will scan your screenshots with location data and show suggestions.
Step 6: Once it recognises a place, Maps will show a pop-up message suggesting that it has places for you to review.
Step 7: Tap the Review button and decide if you want to save the image to your screenshot list in Google Maps or not.
Once saved, you will see the saved places directly on your map.
