Amidst the rising cases of coronavirus in India, Google has announced a new feature that’ll help users locate COVID-19 testing centres near them. The feature is available on Google Search, Assistant, and Maps. The COVID-19 testing centres list will be available under the ‘Testing’ tab on the coronavirus-related search result pages on Google Search and Assistant, while Google Maps will show the list of nearby testing labs when users search for keywords like “COVID testing” or “coronavirus testing.”

“The Mountain View company is working with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and MyGov to provide users with relevant information on coronavirus and authorized testing labs,” Google said in its press release. The new feature is available in English and eight other languages in India – Hindi, Bengali, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, Marathi, and Gujarati.

How to find COVID-19 testing centres via Google Search, Assistant, and Maps:

  • To find COVID-19 testing centres on Google Search and Google Assistant, simply search for any coronavirus-related information (e.g. “coronavirus testing”). The search results page will show you a ‘Testing’ tab within which you can find a list of nearby testing labs along with key information and guidance needed before using their services.
  • On Google Maps, you can search for COVID testing or coronavirus testing to see a list of nearby testing labs, with a link to Google Search for the government-mandated requirements.

At present, details of over 700 testing labs are available on Search, Assistant, and Maps spread across 300 cities, Google said. The company is also working with authorities to identify and add more testing labs located across the country. That said, users need to follow the recommended guidelines that help determine testing eligibility before visiting.
