Google Pixel 6 and Google Pixel 6 Pro are the company’s current flagship phones. The company showed off the Google Pixel 7 series at the I/O 2022 conference and it is expected to launch in the next couple of months. While we wait for the announcement, several Pixel 6 users have been complaining about black spots on their phones’ screens. These complaints have been spotted on forums including Reddit, Twitter and Google Support Page.

One Pixel 6 Pro user, “Beau Youin” wrote, “The screen has developed a black dot that appears to be growing. This is cause for concern considering the phone hasn’t been dropped or dipped in water. He says the Google support (chat/call) isn’t helping either.

Pixel 6 series display bug

Some Pixel 6 series users have found the black dot around the front camera while others are complaining about the black dot that has started to form in the upper right corner of the phone. Buyers are considering this to be dead pixels on the screen. It isn’t clear whether this issue is due to faulty hardware or is related to software. There is a common belief that this could be a hardware-related issue, which means the customers are forced to reach out to Google and get a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) number and get a replacement unit.

Interestingly, a black dot on one of the customer’s Google Pixel 6 disappeared automatically after he installed the March security update earlier this year. However, the experience was not the same for everyone. Google doesn’t seem to have acknowledged the issue yet as there’s no public statement and we’re not sure how widespread the issue really is. This issue will seriously impact Pixel 7 potential buyers in the next fall. The company needs to prove its mettle that it can compete strongly with Samsung and Apple phones on the market.

Software or hardware bugs are not new for smartphones but with Google the situation is entirely different as these issues pop up constantly, thereby hampering the whole user experience.
