Google Pixel 6a launched in India: Five phones it will compete with

Google Pixel 6a has finally launched in India after being announced at the I/O 2022 developer’s conference in May. The phone is up for pre-orders in the country and will be available for purchase from July 28th exclusively via Flipkart. It is the first Google phone in India to come with the in-house Tensor chipset since the Pixel 6 series wasn’t made available.

However, the Pixel 6a is not cheap at Rs 43,999 (excluding bank and exchange discounts). There’s a common opinion that there are better options in the market and are slightly cheaper as well. Here are the five phones that Google Pixel 6a will compete with in the country.

Pixel 6a specifications

Before we start, here’s a look recall of the Pixel 6a specifications. It sports a 6.1-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a standard 60Hz refresh rate, 20:9 aspect ratio, HDR, always-on display, and Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. The phone ships with a Tensor chipset paired with 6GB LPDDR5 RAM and 128GB storage. The phone boots Android 12 OS out of the box. The handset has a 4306mAh battery with 18W fast charging support and an under-display fingerprint sensor for security.

The Pixel 6a features a dual-camera setup on the back, comprising a 12.2MP primary camera and a 12MP ultra-wide-angle lens. There is an 8MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats.

Nothing Phone (1)

The latest internet sensation, Nothing Phone (1) is also a potential competitor to the Pixel 6a.

Nothing Phone (1) flaunts a 6.55-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with 10-bit HDR, 120Hz adaptive refresh rate, 2400×1080 pixel resolution, 402PPI, and up to 1200 nits peak brightness. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ chipset, up to 12GB RAM, and 256GB storage. The phone runs on Android 12-based Nothing OS custom skin out of the box. Connectivity options include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and a USB Type-C port.

Moving to optics, the Nothing Phone (1) has a dual rear camera setup on the back, with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor and a 50MP Samsung JN1 ultra-wide lens. It has a 16MP Sony IMX471 sensor on the front for selfies and video calls. The Nothing Phone (1) packs a 4,500mAh battery with 33W fast charging, 15W Qi wireless charging and 5W reverse wireless charging. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor for security, dual stereo speakers and an IP53 rating.

Price: The Nothing Phone (1) is priced at Rs 32,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model, Rs 35,999 for the 8GB + 256GB model, and Rs 38,999 for the 12GB + 256GB version. 

OnePlus 10R

The Pixel 6a will compete with the OnePlus 10R as they are priced in a similar range if we consider the high-end model of the latter.

OnePlus-10R

The OnePlus 10R sports a 6.7-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, 720Hz touch response rate, 2,412×1,080 pixels resolution, 20:1:9 aspect ratio, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 layer. It is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max chipset paired with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. The OnePlus 10R boots Android 12-based OxygenOS skin.

Connectivity options could include 5G, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC and a USB Type-C port. The handset will have a triple rear camera system on the back, with a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor with OIS, f/1.8 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide Sony IMX355 sensor with 119-degree FoV, and a 2MP Macro. There is a 16MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats.

The OnePlus 10R comes in two models: a 4,500mAh battery with 150W fast charging support and the other version with a large 5,000mAh battery with 80W fast charging. It is equipped with an in-display fingerprint sensor for security, stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos, the largest 4,100 mm2 vapour chamber and a new cooling film.

Price: OnePlus 10R is priced at Rs 38,999 for the 8GB/128GB base model, Rs 42,999 for the 12GB/256GB, and Rs 43,999 for 12GB/256GB model.

iQOO Neo 6

At a starting price of Rs 29,999, the iQOO Neo is also a competitor to the Pixel 6a. Here’s a look at its specifications and price.

    iQOO Neo 6 sports a 6.62-inch FHD+ E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and 1,300 nits brightness. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset paired with Adreno 650 GPU for graphics, up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage that is not further expandable. The phone runs on Android 12-based Funtouch OS custom skin.

    The iQOO Neo 6 will pack a 4,700mAh battery with 80W fast charging support. It is equipped with a liquid cooling system, stereo speakers, Hi-Fi audio, an in-display fingerprint sensor, and an x-axis linear vibration motor. It measures 163×76.16×8.54mm and weighs 190 grams. In the camera department, the iQOO Neo 6 has triple cameras on the back, with a 64MP Samsung GW1P main sensor with OIS and f/1.89 aperture, an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro lens. It has a 16MP shooter on the front for selfies and video chats.

    Price: iQOO Neo 6 price in India will start at Rs 29,999 for the 8GB + 128GB model, while the 12GB + 256GB version will cost Rs 33,999.

    Realme GT 2

    Realme GT 2 is the company’s premium offering with specifications like the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset and 65W fast charging. It competes with the Pixel 6a.

    Realme GT 2 Master Explorer

    Realme GT 2 sports a 6.62-inch E4 AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, punch-hole cutout for the selfie snapper, 2400 x 1080 pixels resolution, 1300nits peak brightness, and Corning Gorilla Glass 5 layer for protection. It is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset paired with Adreno 660 GPU, up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage.

     The Realme GT 2 has a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor with OIS, f/1.8 aperture, 6P lens, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with 119-degree FOV, and a 2MP macro lens with f/2.4 aperture. There is a 16MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats. Connectivity features include 5G, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port.     OnePlus Nord 2T

    The OnePlus Nord 2T is the company’s latest mid-ranger and is a budget rival to the Pixel 6a.

    OnePlus Nord 2T flaunts a 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED display with a 90Hz refresh rate and a punch-hole cutout for the selfie snapper. Powering the phone is the MediaTek Dimensity 1300 chipset coupled with up to 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. It runs on Android 12-based OxygenOS 12 custom skin out of the box.

    Moving to optics, the OnePlus Nord 2T features triple cameras on the back, including a 50MP Sony IMX766 primary sensor with OIS support, f/1.9 aperture, an 8MP ultra-wide lens with f/2.25 aperture, and a 2MP f/2.4 monochrome sensor. There is a 32MP snapper on the front for selfies and video chats.
