The first thing that sticks out when you look at the Honor 9N is its notch. This tiny cut-out on top of its display is something that the 9 Lite does not have. On close observation, you will also notice that the 9N’s display has rounded corners. It’s these little changes that enhance the looks of the new device, making it definitely stand out when held beside the Honor 9 Lite or from other smartphones in the segment, for that matter.

A 5.84-inch panel with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,280 pixels and a 19:9 aspect ratio is present on the 9N, while the display on the Honor 9 Lite measures 5.65-inches diagonally and features a resolution of 1,080 x 2,160 pixels and an 18:9 aspect ratio.

The RAM options are different for these two phones as well. Buyers of the 9N will be able to get 32GB of storage with its 3GB RAM model, and either 64GB or 128GB of memory onboard on its 4GB RAM variant. As opposed to that, the 32GB storage version of the Honor 9 Lite ships with 3GB of RAM, while its 64GB model comes with 4GB of RAM.

The other big change lies in the front camera department. The new device has gone for a higher-res 16MP selfie camera, while the 9 Lite delivers 13MP + 2MP dual-camera setup. Both smartphones also offer the portrait mode, however on the Honor 9N, it’s enabled by software.

Both these phones feature glass on their front as well as back surfaces and are held together by an aluminium frame. On their rear, they hold a horizontally-aligned dual camera setup and a fingerprint scanner. These two devices look very identical to each other, especially from the back.

The dual-camera setup is also the same. The phones feature a combination of a 13MP primary snapper and a 2MP depth sensor for delivering portrait effects. Inside both the phones, the heavy lifting is handled by Huawei’s HiSilicon Kirin 659 chipset, which comes with a 2.36GHz octa-core processor and a Mali-T830 GPU.

As mentioned above, the storage and RAM options are pretty different, but what’s common between the two handsets is the presence of a microSD card slot. Under the hood, both phones come fuelled by a 3,000mAh cell. The list of sensors on the smartphones includes an accelerometer, a compass and a proximity sensor. Lastly, the software on these phones is Huawei’s proprietary EMUI 8.0 which is based on Android 8.1 Oreo.
