Honor Play with GPU Turbo technology goes official alongside the new Honor 9i

Honor has expanded its range of mid-range and flagship smartphones with the launch of the new variant of the Honor 9i and Honor Play smartphones at an event in its home market of China. The Honor Play comes as the vendor’s first smartphone to boast its new GPU Turbo technology, which is being claimed to deliver a smoother and faster mobile experience. The brand says that with hardware-software integration, the GPU Turbo technology dramatically increases graphics processing efficiency of mobile phones.

Talking about the Honor Play first, the phone flaunts a 6.3-inch IPS LCD full HD+ display with a notch and a screen-to-body ratio of 89 percent. The phone is powered by a 10nm Kirin 970 processor, and gets a dedicated NPU (neural processing unit) for enhanced artificial intelligence features. The handset gets a dual primary camera setup at the rear, which comprises of 16MP and 2MP sensors that are aided by Dual AF and AI screen recognition. For selfies, there’s a 16MP shooter with AI portrait feature as well as support for 3D portrait lighting. A 3,750mAh battery keeps the Android Oreo-fuelled smartphone running. The device comes in two RAM and storage configurations – 4GB + 64GB and 6GB + 64GB.

As for the new Honor 9i, the phone gets a 5.84-inch display with full HD+ resolution and 19:9 aspect ratio. This one sports a 13MP + 2MP dual camera setup at the back with PDAF and a portrait mode with hardware-level blur effects. For selfies, the handset is equipped with a 16MP shooter with AI features. The phone is powered by an octa-core Kirin 659 processor, and boots Android Oreo with EMUI 8.0 on top. The RAM and storage configurations of the device include – 4GB + 32GB, 4GB + 64GB, and 4GB + 128GB. A 3,000mAh battery keeps the whole package alive.

New Honor 9i

The Honor Play will be available at a starting price of RMB 1,999 (~Rs 21,000), and comes in Aurora Blue, Black, Violet, Black, and Red hues. The Honor 9i’s price starts at RMB 1,399 (~Rs 14,600), and it will be available in Charm Blue, Dream Purple, and Magic Night Black hues. The Honor Play will go on sale in China on June 11th, while the new 9i will be up for grabs starting June 7th i.e. tomorrow.
