HTC has announced that its first blockchain-based smartphone called the EXODUS 1 is finally available to pre-order. The phone was originally announced in May this year, but at the time, the brand didn’t reveal its complete features, specifications, pricing, and the availability details. The HTC EXODUS 1 is a highly secure smartphone with a dedicated wallet protected from Android OS, which can be used to hold the keys to your cryptocurrency securely.

Interestingly, since the HTC EXODUS 1 is a blockchain-centric smartphone, it can only be purchased using Bitcoin or Ethereum cryptocurrencies. The phone will set you back by 0.15 BTC (~Rs 70,300) or 4.78 ETH (~Rs 69,800). The device is available to pre-order on the brand’s HTC EXODUS website, and is expected to starting shipping in 34 countries starting December.

The HTC EXODUS 1 is built around two core features – Secure Enclave and Social Key Recovery mechanism. The Secure Enclave feature offers a secure place inside your phone’s main storage to let you store the keys to your cryptocurrency. Basically, this space is protected from the rest of the device and its Android operating system. The Social Key Recovery feature allows you to pick three to four friends to hold a portion of your crypto keys on their devices. So, in case your EXODUS 1 is lost or stolen, you can easily recover keys to your cryptocurrencies. The company will also be releasing APIs to allow third-party developers to use the secure hardware of the EXODUS 1 to let them securely protect keys and sign transactions.
Apart from providing a highly-secure protected space, the HTC EXODUS 1 also boasts top-notch specifications. The flagship is loaded with a 6.0-inch quad-HD+ screen with an aspect ratio of 18:9. Powering the handset is an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, aided by 6GB of RAM. The phone features 128GB of UFS2.1 storage and boots Android Oreo out of the box. The handset also gets Edge Sense 2 for one-handed convenient user experience.
For photography, the HTC EXODUS 1 flaunts a 12-megapixel primary shooter at the rear, aided by a 16-megapixel secondary snapper. The device offers 4K video recording at 60fps with 3D audio recording quality, and Sonic Zoom functionality with Audio Boost. The phone comes with HTC BoomSound Hi-Fi edition and HTC USonic with Active Noise Cancellation for an immersive audio experience. In terms of connectivity, you get a single nano-SIM slot, Cat. 18 Gigabit LTE, VoLTE, and GPS. A 3,500mAh battery with fast charging support and IP68 water-and-dust resistant design complete the list of the features.
