“The Huawei P30 Pro Dual-View Video recording feature lets users capture two perspectives of the same scene”
Huawei has rolled out a new update for the P30 Pro that provides the smartphone with two new camera-centric capabilities. First up is the ability to record dual-view videos — this will allow Huawei P30 Pro users to record videos from two different angles at the same time. Second is the new AR Measure app that was limited to the Chinese market till now and allows the handset’s 3D ToF camera to enable an AR-based measurement tool, similar to Apple’s Measure app. The Huawei P30 Pro update is being rolled out to 80 million EMUI 9 users globally, the company says.
Starting with the Dual-View Video recording function, the update will now allow the handset to use one camera to record a wide-angle video, while the other camera sensor captures a close-up shot of the same scene. This will allow users to view and record two perspectives simultaneously, with Huawei touting the feature to useful for capturing concerts and sports matches. Users will be able to adjust the magnification level of the video as well.
Next is the Huawei AR Measure app that will use the 3D ToF camera in conjunction with AR tech to turn the P30 Pro into a measurement tool. The company said in a release, “It can not only be used for measuring the length of lines and area of surfaces, but also volume of objects as well as a person’s height, thanks to its facial recognition capability. When multiple subjects are within the frame (like friends and family in a group setting), AR Measure can measure the heights of all subjects at one go.” The margin for error with the measurement app is claimed to be around 1 percent only.
