“The Huawei P40 is expected to be among the soon to launch flagship smartphones, and may come in three variants.”
Huawei is reportedly close to launching its new generation flagship smartphone for 2020, dubbed the Huawei P40. The upcoming flagship smartphone lineup has been written and discussed extensively and has made the headlines for its seemingly well-rounded set of specifications. Now, a new mockup video of the upcoming smartphone, based on renders of the device, has surfaced online, giving us a well-rounded glimpse at the possible design of the smartphone, as well as clues on what its entire feature package may entail.
According to the video, the Huawei P40 lineup appears to host a near edge to edge display, with bare minimum bezels on all sides. The bezels appear to be the thinnest at the top, while the bottom edge appears to have marginally thicker bezels, but not thick enough to disrupt the flow of the overall design. The display is expected to be an AMOLED panel, and will likely sport an optical fingerprint scanner underneath it. At the top left corner, the Huawei P40 appears to feature a horizontal pill-shaped cut-out that houses the dual front cameras as well.
Interestingly, to the rear, the Huawei P40 mockup shows a large camera slab that seems to host a five-camera layout, along with a dual-tone flash module and the coveted Leica branding that Huawei introduced with the Huawei P10 smartphone. While it is not quite clear what the five camera setup might exactly bring to the table, the rumour mill reports have suggested that the primary unit might be a high-resolution unit with a 24mm lens. The large unit seen in the setup might be the periscope lens-based optical zoom unit, which may bring a 10x optical zoom to the camera. Other units can include an ultra-wide unit, a Cine unit (like seen in the Mate 30), a depth assisting unit and an additional module for adding chrominance (colour) details, or even a macro photography module. With such a wide focal range (ultra-wide to 10x telephoto), the Huawei P40’s camera setup looks set to be quite a commendable one.
While other features and the exact division of variants are not known yet, reports suggest that Huawei might introduce the P40 in three variants — a standard P40, a flagship P40 Pro, and an overkill version as well, which is being tentatively called Huawei P40 Premium, or P40 Plus. Standard specifications across all the variants may include a Kirin 990 SoC, 12GB of RAM, Android 10-based EMUI 10 custom interface and even a 5,000mAh battery with up to 50W fast charging. Given the frequency of the leaks, we won’t be surprised if a launch is just around the corner for the Huawei P40 lineup.
