“The Huawei Y9 (2019) has been discounted by Rs 3,000 in face of stiff competition from fellow OEMs”
Huawei has slashed the prices of its Huawei Y9 (2019) budget smartphone in the Indian market. Launched in India earlier this year, the Huawei Y9 (2019) was introduced at Rs 15,999, but has since then been discounted by Rs 3,000 in order to take on stiff competition from fellow OEMs such as Xiaomi and OPPO sub-brand Realme in the sub-Rs 15,000 segment.
Huawei Y9 (2019) price in India, specifications
Now priced at Rs 12,999 and available for purchase via Amazon India, the Huawei Y9 (2019) is powered by the octa-core HiSilicon Kirin 710 SoC, coupled with up to 4GB of memory. It also gets a reasonably generous 64GB of storage, which can be further expanded by up to 256GB via microSD cards. It features a 6.5-inch full HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio, with a notch at the top that houses two selfie cameras. Despite the tall aspect ratio and overall design, the Huawei Y9 (2019) has rather prominent bezels on the sides.
On the rear, the Huawei Y9 (2019) gets a 13-megapixel primary camera and f/1.8 lens, and a 2-megapixel depth assistance camera. Up front, the primary camera uses a 16-megapixel image sensor, paired with a 2-megapixel secondary camera for enabling portrait mode shots. The entire package is powered by a 4,000mAh battery. While all of these components are nearly at par with what the budget smartphone competition offers in India right now, the Huawei Y9 (2019) still runs on Android 8.1 Oreo, with an intended upgrade to Android 9 still left to be rolled out.
While the rest of the specifications are reasonably decent, it is the lack of the latest Android version that may put many off from purchasing the smartphone. Despite that, given the rest of the specifications on offer, the Huawei Y9 (2019) does make for a device to consider in this segment, even with the likes of the Redmi Note 7 Pro and the Realme 3 Pro within the vicinity.
