Idea introduces Rs 159 prepaid plan offering 28GB data and unlimited calls

“Idea’s plan matches Vodafone’s Rs 159 prepaid plan, which offers the same data, calling benefits”

Soon after Vodafone launched its Rs 159 prepaid plan, Idea has come up with a plan at the same price. Ever since Vodafone has taken over Idea Cellular, the telcos have been working on unifying their tarrif plans. Offering the same benefits as Vodafone’s plan, Idea’s Rs 159 plan offers 28GB data, unlimited voice calls and 100 SMSes per day. While Vodafone’s plan is available for some of its 4G circles, but as an open market plan, Idea is offering this plan in only its popular circles as a segmented offer valid only for select users.

Talking about the benefits of the plan, users will get 28GB of 2G/3G/4G data, amounting to 1GB of data every day for the plan’s validity of 28 days. Users will also get unlimited local, STD and national calling, although, the calls will be limited to 250 minutes per day and 1000 minutes per week. Users will also be send up to 100 SMSes in a day under this plan.

Vodafone and Idea’s merger, the Vodafone Idea Limited, has resulted in the telcos trying to merge everything, including tariff plans, network infrastructure etc. As a result of this, Idea is launching plans similar to that of Vodafone, with similar benefits. Vodafone has been launching a number of prepaid and postpaid plans recently to reach and attract more users. Idea Cellular is following in the telco’s steps, and we might soon see it launching plans similar to Vodafone’s.

Talking about competition, Idea’s new plan lags far behind those of Airtel and Jio. Airtel’s rs 119 prepaid plan offers 2GB of data per day along with unlimited calling without any FUP limited and 300 SMSes per day, for a validity of 28 days. Reliance Jio wins the race with its Rs 98 plan, which offers 2GB of 4G data for 28 days.
