
The Indian PC market, including desktops, notebooks, and workstations, grew 8.1 percent YoY (Year-over-Year) in Q1 2025. A total of 3.3 million units were shipped, as per the latest report from IDC (International Data Corporation). This is also said to be the seventh consecutive quarter of growth for the Indian PC market. Based on the rankings shared in the report, HP has retained the top spot, followed by Lenovo, Dell, and Acer. Here are the details.
Indian PC market growth in Q1, 2025
- The notebook segment grew 13.8 percent YoY, while the workstations grew 30.4 percent YoY in Q1 2025, as per the report from IDC.
- The desktop category, however, declined by 2.4 percent YoY.
- The premium notebook shipments costing less than $1,000 (~around Rs 85,200) grew by 8 percent YoY.
- The AI notebooks witnessed a whopping 185.1 percent YoY growth, but from a small base.
- The consumer segment grew by 8.9 percent YoY, thanks to Republic Day sales and a heavy shipment push in March across channels.
- E-tain channel continued the upward trajectory, growing at 21.9 percent YoY in Q1 2025. E-tail or electronic-retailing refers to an online channels, like websites/apps, where electronic goods are sold.
- The consumer segment grew 7.5 percent YoY with increased demand for commercial notebooks, primarily from enterprises.
- The commercial desktop category declined 2.5 percent due to a 27.4 percent YoY decline in the government segment.
- Bharath Shenoy, research manager, IDC India & South Asia, notes that while strong shipments hint at positive market momentum, the increased channel inventory poses a challenge in the near future.
Top 5 PC brands in India
- HP: HP led the market with a 29.1 percent share in Q1 2025. It topped both the commercial segment with 32.7 percent share and the consumer segment. The commercial segment witnessed a 60.6 percent YoY strong demand from enterprises. However, the focus on correcting/clearing the inventory in the consumer segment witnessed a 1.4 percent YoY decline.
- Lenovo: Lenovo came in second with 18.9 percent market share in Q1 2025. It grew in both the consumer and commercial segments by 36.4 percent and 33.8 percent YoY. The demand from enterprises and SMB (Small and Medium Business) were the key demand drivers for the strong segment in the commercial segment. The continued push in the retail and e-tail channels helped its consumer segment performance.
- Dell: Dell has a market share of 15.6 percent share in Q1 2025. However, it continued to hold the second position in the commercial segment with a 22 percent share. The focus on correcting the channel inventory in the consumer segment led to lower shipments, resulting in a drop to sixth position behind Apple.
- Acer: Acer held the fourth spot with 15.4 percent market share and witnessed a 7.6 percent YoY growth in Q1 2025. Thanks to strong e-tailer push and increased offline presence, Acer witnessed 95.5 percent YoY growth in the consumer segment. However, the commercial segment declined 21.1 YoY mainly due to a decline in government and education orders.
- ASUS: ASUS witnessed a 6 percent share and a YoY growth of 8.6 percent. The company started the quarter with a relatively low inventory, resulting in shipping a bigger volume of PCs. The commercial segment witnessed a 41.1 percent YoY growth, though the base is small.
