Instagram just got a fresh new look, including a new icon and an updated app design for Android and iOS devices. The company revealed a simpler, cleaner look for its app on Wednesday, changing the overall design of the app’s user interface.

The new app icon represents a simpler camera and the rainbow lives on in gradient form. The app now features a black and white interface, with plenty of white space. All text appears in black, while notifications pop up in red. The new user interface is less colourful than the earlier versions of the app, and is designed to make your photos and videos pop better.

Instagram new simpler design

“We’ve made improvements to how the Instagram app looks on the inside as well. The simpler design puts more focus on your photos and videos without changing how you navigate the app,” said Instagram in a blog post. “We designed our new look to match your vibrant and diverse stories,” wrote CEO Kevin Systrom in an Instagram post.

Instagram, Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse icons

Instagram has also updated the icons for its other creative apps including Layout, Boomerang and Hyperlapse. The company is aiming to unify the range of tools it offers. The new interface is available as an update to all Android and iOS devices now.
