iOS 18 customisation: tint, darken, resize, rearrange icons, and edit Control Center

Apple is more lenient with the iOS 18 customisation. iPhone users can now tint app icons or entirely darken the icons (manually or automatically based on the hour of the day). You can also resize or rearrange icons wherever you want. And it’s not just the homescreen, you have more ways to edit the Control Center and the lockscreen now. How to tint app icons on iOS 18

Step 1: Tap and press on the homescreen background (somewhere other than the app icons).

Step 2: Tap on the 3-dot menu on the top left corner. Choose Customise from the menu.

Step 3: Tap on the Tinted option on the rightmost end.

Step 4: You can customise the tint shade by moving the two sliders present here. The top slider is to choose the colour of the tint and the bottom slider is to choose the intensity of the colour.

Alternatively, you can tap the colour picker button on the right corner of the colour-choosing panel.

How to enable dark mode for app icons on iOS 18

Step 1: Long-press on the homescreen background.

Step 2: Tap on the 3-dot menu > Customise > Dark/Automatic. Pressing Dark keeps the dark theme forever until you change it later. In the case of Automatic, it will switch back to light mode in the day hours.

In the dark mode, the app icons retain some accents from their original version.  

How to resize app icons on iOS 18

Step 1: Long-press on the homescreen.

Step 2: From the top left corner 3-dot menu, choose Customise.

Step 3: Tap on Large to increase the app icon size and Small to decrease the size.

How to resize widgets on iOS 18

Option 1: Tap and long-press on the homescreen background. The homescreen apps and widgets will start jiggling. Now, you can grab the handle on the bottom edge of a widget you want to resize and pull it back to expand its size or push it in to reduce its size.

Option 2: Long-pressing widgets will show the context menu. In the menu, you’ll see a new section that shows the available sizes. Pick the one you prefer. The widget will change in size.

How to rearrange app icons on iOS 18

Now, you can place app icons in a vertical grid or in a zigzag form too.

Step 1: You just have to press and hold app icons to grab them.

Step 2: Then, place them where you want.

How to edit Control Center

Step 1: Open the iOS Control Center by swiping down from the top right side of the status bar.

Step 2: Either long-press on an empty space on the Control Center or tap the ‘Plus‘ icon on the top left corner. The Control Center buttons will start to jiggle.

Step 3:  You can grab and drag a Control and place it where you want. You can also grab the handle on the bottom right corner of a Control and drag it outward to increase the Control’s size or inward to decrease its size.
