Some iPhone 16 Pro, Pro Max owners report sudden freezing and reboot issue

The iPhone 16 series seems to have gotten to a rough start. First, there were reports about users facing issues with touchscreen and swipe glitches. Shortly later, there were complaints about excessive battery drain even without heavy usage. In the latest, some iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max users are reporting that their units are suddenly freezing and restarting for no real reason.

iPhone 16 Pro series users report a new bug

Going into details, the reports about the restart and freezing started surfacing on Reddit and Apple Forum shortly after the iPhone 16 lineup hit the stores.
The reports came out from the owners of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models.

It looks like not every user of the phones is facing the issue at the moment but there are enough to raise concerns.
Reports from affected users claim that the screen of the iPhone 16 Pro series suddenly stops responding to touches and soon automatically reboots itself.
There are also cases where the phones reboot out of nowhere even when in standby mode.
There are cases where the phone restarts multiple times in a day while some users report the issue occurs only occasionally.
The bug seems to be present on iPhone 16 Pro models running iOS 18/iOS 18.0.1 stable and iOS 18.1 beta.
Looking closely, the bug/issue appears to be present in some units regardless of the software version. This could mean a potential hardware-related issue but is not confirmed at the moment.

Either way, customers who are reporting the issue were able to get replacement devices by claiming a warranty. But there appear to be cases where the issue was still present even on the replacement units.

Some users are reporting that factory resetting the phone without restoring your backup helped resolve things. This could suggest that the bug was caused during the restoration of iCloud backups. Though this setup process might look tedious, it can eliminate the frustration of regular reboots. Apple is yet to respond/acknowledge the issue publicly.
