Apple recently announced that it’ll be hosting its Spring event on March 8th, where it is expected to unveil the iPhone SE 3 alongside other products. While we don’t have all the details of the new iPhone SE 3, we do know a lot about the smartphone. There have been several leaks and reports regarding the upcoming budget iPhone. Here’s a roundup that takes a look at all that we know about the iPhone SE 3. The phone is expected to see no changes in terms of design, but it’ll have upgraded and more powerful internals. Let’s take a look at what to expect from the new iPhone SE.

The key highlight of the iPhone SE 3 will be the 5G support, though there’s some uncertainty regarding how it will affect battery life.

iPhone SE 3 release date

While Apple hasn’t explicitly confirmed that the iPhone SE 3 is launching on Tuesday, March 8th, the company is hosting a product launch event. We expect Apple to announce the new iPhone SE at this event, which is titled “Peek Performance”. The company launched the previous iPhone SE during a special Spring event in April 2020. It is possible that the company will launch the successor tomorrow.

As for the release date, according to a Belkin case listing, the iPhone SE 3 will be up for grabs as early as March 10th, though that may just be the pre-order date.

iPhone SE 3 price

The iPhone SE is the cheapest iPhone from Apple, and it is highly likely that the upcoming 2022 variant will carry an aggressive (for an iPhone) price tag like its predecessor. We expect the iPhone SE 3 to be priced around the $300 mark. The base variant of the phone could be priced around Rs 30,000 in India when launched.

iPhone SE 3 design

Apple iPhone SE 2020

Going by the leaked renders and reports, the new iPhone SE 3 model will retain the same design as its predecessor, i.e. the design we have been seeing since 2014’s iPhone 6. This means that the smartphone will have thick bezels, a metal frame, and a glass back. The phone will continue to offer a single rear camera and feature the Touch ID fingerprint sensor up front. According to a recent report, the phone will be available in White, Black, and Red colour options. However, we’ll have to wait till the launch event to find out what Apple has in store for us.

Initially, there were reports that the iPhone SE 3 will feature a design similar to iPhone XR, but more recent reports and renders point to the iPhone 8-like design.

Apple has been using the same design on the iPhone SE since 2020. The design is preferred by many who prefer a small yet powerful device, though the company’s ‘mini’ lineup shows a more modern design is possible for a compact iPhone. Coming to the specifics, the power button is available on the right side, whereas the volume and mute buttons are on the left. The phone will offer wireless charging support, stereo speakers, and IP67 water and dust resistance rating.

iPhone SE 3 specifications

  • 4.7-inch HD display
  • A15 Bionic chipset
  • 5G support
  • 64GB, 128GB, 256GB storage options
  • 12MP single rear camera
  • 7MP selfie camera
  • Touch ID fingerprint sensor
  • iOS 15
  • Wireless charging

The iPhone SE series has been known for its compact form factor, minimal design, and powerful specifications. That trend is going to continue with the latest 2022 model as well. According to reports and leaks, the iPhone SE 3 will be powered by the Apple A15 Bionic chipset. This means that the phone will be as powerful as the latest iPhone 13 series. The A15 Bionic chip in such a small package, with a smaller display, should also offer decent battery life. However, the key highlight of the iPhone SE 3 — namely 5G — may also affect the battery life. On the topic of 5G, the smartphone is said to support both mmWave and sub-6GHz bands.

The phone is expected to feature similar hardware as the 2020 model. It’ll likely come with a 4.7-inch Retina display and Touch ID sensor for biometrics. As with previous iPhone SE models, the 2022 variant will also get a single 12-megapixel rear camera. However, we expect to see some improvements in the camera performance over the previous SE model. A 7-megapixel selfie camera is also expected on the front of the phone.

As per a recent report, the iPhone SE 3 will be available in 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options, similar to the previous model. It will run iOS 15 out of the box. Other details, such as charging speed and battery capacity, aren’t known yet.

We should know all the details tomorrow during the Apple event.
