“The Assembled-in-India iPhone XR would help Apple avoid high import taxes as well as meet local sourcing norms need to open its retail stores”
iPhone XR (review) assembled in India unit have finally started selling in the country as units with ‘Assembled in India’ tag were spotted at quite a few electronics retailers, including Croma. This move comes in times when Apple intends to expand its market share in the world’s second-largest smartphone market, India. The iPhone XR is being assembled at Foxconn’s India factory, and this would help the Cupertino giant avoid high import taxes as well as meet local sourcing norms for opening its retail stores in the country. The Assembled-in-India iPhone XR comes with a price of Rs 49,900 for the 64GB model, though the price has gone down to Rs 39,990 during festive season sales.
Furthermore, Apple also slashed the iPhone XR price in India in a move to counter the sales slowdown and face competition from Samsung and OnePlus in the premium segment. This is in-line with a report from earlier this year that said that Apple would assemble its top-end iPhones in India. For Apple, it can use India as an export hub while it softens the impact of the ongoing trade war between the United States and China.
