iQOO 16 leak points to a 2K 165Hz OLED display and more powerful ray tracing
The iQOO 15 already had one of the most gaming-focused displays on a mainstream flagship, but iQOO apparently isn’t ready to slow down. The upcoming iQOO 16 is tipped to pair a newer Samsung OLED material with next-generation LEAD technology, while pushing the refresh rate from 144Hz to 165Hz. It could also introduce more advanced ray tracing features for mobile gamers.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station (via), the iQOO 16 will be the first Android smartphone to use Samsung Display’s M16 emissive material alongside a new-generation LEAD display technology. The phone is expected to launch in China by the end of September or early October.

iQOO 16 display tipped
The iQOO 15 uses a 6.85-inch 2K Samsung M14 LEAD OLED panel with a 144Hz refresh rate, making the display one of its headline features. iQOO claims the polariser-free technology delivers higher light transmission, lower power consumption and a longer panel lifespan. The iQOO 16 is tipped to keep the same 6.85-inch size and 2K-class resolution, but move to Samsung’s newer M16 material and raise the refresh rate to 165Hz. The latest LEAD implementation reportedly uses a nano-lithography filter structure instead of a conventional polarising layer. The claimed gains include 40 percent higher light transmission, 44 percent lower power consumption and a 50 percent increase in panel lifespan.
Notably, the same M16 and LEAD display technology is reportedly being considered for Apple’s upcoming foldable iPhone Ultra. That phone would use the technology in a very different form factor, but the fact that both devices could adopt the same display direction highlights how advanced Samsung’s latest OLED technology may be.
The display is only half of iQOO’s plan. The company’s new Q4 chip is reportedly designed to add virtual point light sources and HDR to mobile games, enabling more advanced real-time lighting effects. It could also generate game screenshots at up to 8K resolution, with supported games expected to offer additional visual controls. The iQOO 15 already uses a dedicated Q3 chip for real-time ray tracing, 2K game super resolution and frame interpolation up to 144 FPS. The 16 therefore appears to be extending the same gaming strategy rather than simply adding a faster processor. Earlier leaks point to a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, an 8,500mAh battery, 100W wired charging and a redesigned camera module with a much more futuristic look than the iQOO 15.
The iQOO 16 will launch in the coming weeks. For existing iQOO 15 owners, the upgrade may not be essential unless the faster display and new gaming features matter. But for buyers shopping specifically for a gaming flagship, waiting for the iQOO 16 makes sense. The bigger question for Indian buyers is whether they will get the phone at all, as its local launch remains unconfirmed.
