iQOO could be preparing two distinct performance-focused smartphones rather than launching the same device under different names in China and global markets. A new leak about the China-bound iQOO Z12 Turbo points to a 6.59-inch display and an upcoming Qualcomm chipset, with the phone expected to launch globally as the iQOO 16R. This is unlikely to be the iQOO Neo 12, which has already been confirmed for a China launch on October 28th with a 2K 185Hz display, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset and active cooling.
According to tipster Digital Chat Station on Weibo, the iQOO Z12 Turbo will feature a 6.59-inch display with a high refresh rate. While the exact refresh rate hasn’t been revealed, the panel could support at least 165Hz, up from the iQOO 15R’s native 120Hz refresh rate and 144Hz in supported games.
The phone is also tipped to use an upcoming Qualcomm chipset, potentially called the Snapdragon 8 Gen 6 or Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Pro. The final chipset name and specifications remain unconfirmed. iQOO is reportedly evaluating whether to include an active cooling fan, which could help manage temperatures during extended gaming sessions. It remains unclear whether this feature will make it to the final device.
The iQOO 16R could therefore offer a different hardware package from the Neo 12. The latter has a confirmed Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, a 2K 185Hz display, a built-in cooling fan and a 9,000mAh battery. While the 16R’s leaked specifications point to a high refres rate screen and a newer Qualcomm platform, its battery capacity, charging speeds and cooling solution are yet to be confirmed.
Meanwhile, iQOO hasn’t launched a new Neo series smartphone in India since the Neo 10, which received refreshed colour options after its original launch in 2025. The Neo 11 skipped the Indian market, and the Neo 12’s China launch announcement doesn’t confirm an India release. This makes the 16R relevant to Indian buyers looking for a new performance-focused iQOO phone, although its own India availability remains unconfirmed.
The iQOO 15R launched in India in February 2026, starting at Rs 44,999 for the 8GB + 256GB storage variant. It’s a rebranded version of the China-exclusive iQOO Z11 Turbo, continuing the company’s practice of using different names for its China and international lineups. The 15R features a 6.59-inch 1.5K AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset and a dedicated Q2 gaming chip. It also packs a 7,600mAh battery with 100W charging, a 50MP Sony LYT-700V primary camera with OIS and an 8MP ultra-wide camera. The phone runs Android 16-based OriginOS 6 and is promised four years of OS upgrades and six years of security updates. Its current starting price is around Rs 53,999, after multiple hikes.
The iQOO Z12 Turbo is expected to launch in China, while the iQOO 16R branding is likely for international markets. Neither the launch date nor India availability has been confirmed. Separately, the iQOO Neo 12 will launch in China on October 28th. The two phones appear to be separate devices, and their specifications should not be mixed. Buyers in India should wait for official announcements before deciding which model to consider.
