Jio 5G Welcome Offer: 5G plans, how to get the invite, available cities, and more

Jio has announced the 5G Welcome Offer for its users to get their first hands-on experience with the 5G network. Unlike Airtel, which has already initialised the 5G rollout in a few parts of the country, Jio is first moving ahead with a beta program and is selecting users on an invite basis only. This will enable the telco to take feedback regarding the Jio 5G services before the final rollout begins in the next couple of months. In case you are a Jio user and own a 5G compatible smartphone, here’s everything you need to know about Jio 5G Welcome offer, plans, invite, and more:

What is Jio 5G Welcome Offer?

Jio 5G Welcome Offer is a trial-based program for Jio mobile number owners to get their first glimpse of 5G for free. In order to avail this offer, users need to register and subsequently receive an invite from Jio’s end to be eligible for the program. Initially, the offer is available only in a handful of cities but will continue to spread to more locations with further developments in the 5G network infrastructure. Jio claims to offer 5G services to every talukdar and district by December 2023.

How to get Jio 5G Welcome Offer invite

In order to get the Jio 5G Welcome Offer invite, you need to be in the city where Jio 5G services are available, own a 5G-capable device, and have an active base plan of Rs 239 and above on your number. If you meet these criteria, Jio will send you the invite for the Welcome Offer to use its 5G services. As of now, there doesn’t seem to be any other way to get the 5G Welcome offer to invite.

How to enroll for Jio 5G Welcome Offer invite

If you got the invite, enroll yourself in the ‘Welcome Offer’ trial to use and experience Jio 5G. Here’s how to do that via the MyJio app.

    • Open ‘MyJio’ app on your smartphone
    • Then look for the ‘Jio Welcome Offer’ banner on the top portion of the app. If no such option is present it means the invite is yet to roll out for your mobile number.
    • Next, click on the ‘I am interested’ button
    • On the next screen tap on ‘Done’ to finish the process
    • In the backend, Jio will ascertain the 5G availability in your location as well as check the 5G compatibility of your smartphone
    • Once it’s done, you’ll be notified whether you’ve been selected for the 5G trials or not via SMS or the app itself

At this point, it is still unclear when 5G will actually be made available to those registering for the Welcome Offer. You may or may not get 5G networks on your smartphone right away. Jio earlier stated it plans to roll out the service by Diwali so it’s possible with this invite-based program the company is gathering an initial lot of beta testers. Additionally, beta users can also share their feedback and experience of using Jio 5G with the telco so that they can make necessary improvements for the full-fledged rollout in the next couple of months.

    Jio 5G plans

Reliance Jio has not revealed any 5G plans as of now. As for the Welcome Offer, users will be able to enjoy unlimited internet consumption at no extra cost provided the mobile number is recharged with any Rs 239 and above plan. Users will continue to avail this benefit till the Welcome Offer period ends or whenever Jio announces the 5G plans in the future.

    Jio 5G speed

Per the company, customers enrolled in the Jio 5G Welcome Offer trials will be able to get unlimited 5G data with up to 1 Gbps or above speed. However, do note that since 5G is still in its early stages, it’s more than likely you’d be able to achieve such claimed speeds only in public places or near a 5G tower in your locality.

Who is eligible for Jio 5G Welcome Offer?

It goes without saying, the first and foremost requirement to use 5G service is to have a 5G enabled smartphone be it for the Welcome Offer or just in general. Other than that, the user needs to have an active ongoing recharge plan of Rs 239 and above and subsequently be present in one of the cities where Jio True 5G is rolled out.

Will existing 4G SIMs work with Jio 5G Welcome Offer?

All the existing Jio 4G SIMs are forward-compatible and will work with Jio 5G. The user just needs to enable the 5G option within the phone’s network settings and the phone will try to latch on to a 5G network when available. Also, ensure there’s an active recharge plan in place.
