Jio started the trend of providing unlimited data with its recharge packs, albeit with a daily FUP. Now, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) is taking it further with a limited-period recharge pack that provides completely unlimited data and calling access. For the ongoing festive season, state-owned BSNL has launched the STV-78 recharge that will come with unlimited data, unlimited voice calls and unlimited video calls at just Rs 78. There’s no mention of the SMS benefits in the company statement to the media, meaning standard text messaging tariffs apply. The voucher will have a time validity of 10 days and be effective on pan-India basis.
Marking the occasion of Durga Puja, Dussehra and Diwali, Anupam Shrivastava, CMD BSNL said that STV-78 will suit all users and will enable them to be in touch with their family and friends during festive season. In comparison the most budget friendly prepaid plans being offered by Jio include a Rs 52 sachet pack and a Rs 98 plan (both come with limited data). While the former comes with 7 days’ validity and a total data benefit of 1.05GB, the latter offers a total of 2GB data for 28 days, which is quite less compared to BSNL’s offering. Airtel and Vodafone also have similar recharge packs under Rs 100, with fewer benefits compared to the BSNL recharge.
Recently BSNL also revised its Rs 29 and Rs 9 prepaid plans, which now offer less data benefits than before. Compared to 14GB offered previously, the Rs 29 pack now comes with just 1GB of data. Meanwhile, the 2GB data benefit on the Rs 9 plan has been dropped to a total of 100MB.
