Jio Phone 5G launch in India, price, specifications, and everything we know so far

Jio has officially confirmed that it has partnered with Google to bring affordable Jio Phone 5G. The handset will be the successor to the Jio Phone Next. What’s more, it will support Jio’s 5G network, which is all set to roll out in India from October-end. It will be interesting to see whether the Jio Phone 5G will only be compatible with the standalone 5G network or have non-standalone network support as well. The latter makes the handset backwards compatible with the 4G LTE network as well. In this article, we go through every known detail of the Jio Phone 5G such as its specifications, price in India, and launch date.

Jio Phone 5G launch, sale date in India

The Jio Phone 5G launch in India is expected soon, hints the company. At its 45th Annual General Meeting (AGM) 2022, RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani said that it is working with Google to launch a 5G phone soon. Per the India Today report, Ambani also hinted that the Jio Phone 5G will go official at next year’s AGM event. This is the second time Jio has officially confirmed its 5G phone launch in India. It was initially announced at AGM 2020 that Jio is bringing a new cheap, entry-level 5G smartphone to the market.

The company is yet to confirm the Jio Phone 5G launch and sale date in India. That said, the handset will give first-hand experience of super fast internet speeds right out of the box to the buyers.

Jio Phone 5G price in India (expected)

There are rumours that the Jio Phone 5G price in India could be anywhere between Rs 9,000 to Rs 12,000. However, another report points towards a price tag of Rs 2,500 for the upcoming Jio Phone. This seems to be the down payment, which the customer has to pay while purchasing the device. The remaining amount could be converted into easy EMIs, with bundled data (most likely 5G) and calling benefits, much like the Jio Phone Next.

Jio Phone 5G specifications (rumoured)

Since Jio Phone 5G is expected to be an entry-level smartphone, it’s likely to sport basic specifications. Per the Android Central report, the phone will sport a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel that bears HD+ (1,600 x 720 pixel) resolution and a standard refresh rate of 60Hz. Under the hood, the Jio Phone 5G is said to rock an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G processor paired with an Adreno 619 GPU. The phone could be equipped with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of user-expandable storage.

Jio Phone 5G specs:

  • 6.5-inch HD+ IPS LCD display
  • Snapdragon 480 5G SoC
  • 4GB RAM
  • Android 11 OS
  • 13MP main camera
  • 5,000mAh battery (18W fast charging)

Moving on to the optics, the Jio Phone 5G will reportedly sport a dual camera setup, comprising a 13MP primary sensor and a 2MP macro lens, on the rear. Up front, it may sport an 8MP shooter for selfies and video calling. A side-mounted fingerprint scanner may also make its appearance on the power button for additional security. Also, the phone may come with a large 5000mAh with up to 18W charging support through a USB Type-C port.

On the software front, the budget 5G phone may run the same Pragati OS found on the Jio Phone Next. For the uninitiated, the PragatiOS is a custom Android software from Jio co-created with Google for Jio Android phones.
