5 Jio prepaid recharge plans and offers that were discontinued this year

The list includes the discontinuation of the cheapest Rs 98 Jio prepaid pack.

  • Jio prepaid recharge plans have seen a few changes since the start of the year
  • The affordable Rs 98 prepaid plan was discontinued earlier this month

Jio started its operation in India with free calls and data benefits back in 2016. However, as the subscriber base swelled up, the telco started putting a price to almost every service being offered, while still trying to maintain a competitive edge. Just last year when Jio took over Vodafone-Idea to become the largest telecom operator in India, it introduced voice call charges to non-Jio networks. It didn’t end there. Ever since the start of the year, Jio seems to be rolling back plans and benefits much more aggressively. Let’s take a closer look at all the plans and benefits that Jio has axed from its portfolio so far this year.

Rs 98 Jio prepaid pack

The entry-level Rs 98 Jio recharge has been removed altogether. The recharge is no longer listed on the company’s website and MyJio app. It has now been replaced by the Rs 129 recharge plan, which offers pretty much the same benefits, including free Jio-to-Jio voice calling, 2GB high-speed data, and 300 SMSes for 28 days. The only notable difference is the free 1,000 minutes for non-Jio calling that you get with the Rs 129 Jio pack, which was not the case with Rs 98 recharge.

Rs 50 Jio cashback offer

Jio has withdrawn its Rs 50 cashback vouchers benefit as well. These vouchers were the complementary add-on to bring the cost of the recharge down by Rs 50 on MyJio app. They were discontinued by Jio earlier this year without prior intimation to the users.

Rs 1,299 Jio recharge

Back in February, the Jio Rs 1,299 prepaid pack in India was announced. The pack now comes with 336 days validity instead of 365 days. All the other benefits remain the same, with 24GB of 4G data, unlimited Jio to Jio voice calling, 12,000 Jio to non-Jio voice calling minutes, and 3,600 SMS messages.

Rs 251 Jio add-on pack

Jio also revised its add-on Rs 251 prepaid pack twice since the start of the year. First, it changed the name of the pack to ‘Work From Home’ from Cricket Season Pack, and then,  relaunched Rs 251 Jio add-on recharge with reduced validity. It now offers just 50GB high-speed data instead of 102GB. This pack kicks in once you exhaust the data of the existing pack.

Add-on Jio packs

Apart from that, Jio has added 30 days validity to new ‘Work From Home’ add-on packs. These packs didn’t have validities of their own at the time of the launch earlier this month, but now they do. The changes are reflecting on the company’s website and MyJio app. This means that the packs will expire after 30 days from the day of the recharge and the data, if left any, will lapse. The Work Frome Home Jio recharges start at Rs 151 for 30GB data and go up to Rs 251 for the 50GB data benefit.

Even after axing the bunch of plans and benefits, Jio still has the most economical prepaid packs in its library. The Jio recharges start for as low as Rs 129 for 2GB data and 128GB validity and go up to Rs 4,999 for a year-long validity and 350GB data. For JioPhone users, the recharges vary from Rs 99 to Rs 594 + IUC packs – depending on the benefits they are seeking. Users can head to Jio’s website or MyJio app to know more about the recharges.
