“The Rs. 29 and Rs. 9 BSNL recharges were launched in August on promotional basis and have reportedly been revised, with fewer benefits”
Jio launching operations two years ago changed the landscape of the Indian telecom industry in a short span. Most major telecom operators followed in the footsteps of Jio and started offers recharges that were ever more affordable, counting state-owned BSNL among them. Now, BSNL has reportedly revised the benefits of its Rs. 29 and Rs. 9 recharges to offer fewer data and calling benefits, though it has retained the validity. However, this should not come as a surprise to the subscribers as the Rs. 29 and Rs. 9 BSNL recharges were launched on promotional basis in August. As for the comparable Jio recharges, there is only one such pack in that price range.
The revised Rs. 29 BSNL recharge, according to a Telecom Talk report, will offer users 1GB of data, unlimited calls to any network and free national roaming in all circles except Delhi and Mumbai, and 300 text messages. This is a major downgrade from the benefits the pack offered till now, namely 2GB data per day, unlimited calls, and 100 SMS per day. And as mentioned above, the validity remains the same at 7 days. Subscribers will also be continue to get the PRBT (Personalised Ring-Back Tone) during the validity period, with unlimited song changes.
Coming to the Rs. 9 BSNL recharge, the prepaid pack has 1-day validity, but now comes with 100MB of data, unlimited calls and national roaming at no charge in all circles apart from Delhi and Mumbai, and 100 SMSes. Previously, the pack used to offer 2GB of data, while the remaining benefits were the same.
In comparison, Rs. 19 Jio recharge provides users with 150MB of 4G data (speed down to 64kbps after the FUP is exhausted), unlimited calls, 20 SMSes, and access to its suite of apps. Validity of the recharge is 1 day. Airtel gives the same benefits as BSNL with its Rs. 9 recharge, while its Rs. 29 pack comes with 520MB of 3G/ 4G data.
