Jio Rs 98 vs Vi Rs 99 vs BSNL Rs 97: Which is the best prepaid plan under Rs 100?

The telecom price war started by Jio back in 2016 is getting more and more intense day by day. Vi, Airtel, BSNL, and Jio all have been luring customers with their respective all-in-one recharge packs that go easy on the pocket and offer maximum benefits. One such recharge is Jio’s Rs 98 prepaid plan, which was reintroduced a little over a year after its discontinuation in India. The plan doesn’t come with any additional benefit and instead carries reduced validity of 14 days from the earlier 28 days. That said, it’s the cheapest recharge plan from Jio. We decided to pit Jio’s Rs 98 plan against BSNL Rs 97 and Vi Rs 99 to see which is the best prepaid plan under Rs 100 in India right now.

Jio Rs 98 recharge plan benefits

Rs 98 recharge plan from Jio was reintroduced in India earlier this year. You don’t get any SMS benefits, but the plan offers free voice calls, a total of 21GB of data with a cap of 1.5GB per day, and a subscription to Jio apps such as JioTV, JioCinema, JioNews, and JioSaavn. The Jio Rs 98 prepaid pack has a validity of 14 days.

Vi Rs 99 recharge plan benefits

Vi Rs 99 recharge plan also doesn’t offer a quota of free SMSes, but it has a validity of 18 days instead of 14 days. The recharge benefits are as follows ‘truly’ unlimited calls, and 1GB data/ day (total 18GB data).

BSNL Rs 97 recharge plan benefits

This plan from BSNL offers 2GB per day data for a period of 18 days. It also comes with unlimited voice calls and 100 daily SMSes cap. While the prepaid plan seems better than Jio and Vodafone Idea aka Vi, it’s not available in all regions. BSNL users in Andaman & Nicobar, Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, and J&K can’t recharge their numbers with the Rs 97 prepaid pack.

Airtel recharge plans under Rs 100

Airtel offers two plans with Rs 79 and Rs 49 denominations under Rs 100 to its prepaid customers, but they are not ‘all-in-one’ packs. They are more talk time focused recharge packs, with up to 200MB of free high-speed internet. The Rs 79 prepaid pack comes with Rs 64 talk time (60p/ min tariff), whereas the Rs 49 Airtel recharge plan comprises a talk time of Rs 38.52. Both plans have a validity of 28 days, and much like Jio and Vi, don’t offer free outgoing SMSes.

Verdict: Which is the best recharge plan under Rs 100?

In terms of benefits, BSNL Rs 97 plan clearly has an edge over Vi, Jio, and Airtel. The telco offers 2GB of data per day, along with free voice calls, and SMSes. However, the plan is not available in all regions across the country. In that case, you are better off with Jio’s Rs 98 and Vi Rs 99 prepaid packs. However, if you are not into data benefits and only looking for talk time with 28 days validity, Airtel Rs 79 and Rs 49 recharge plan seems to be the ideal choice.
