
Jio has entered the smart TV operating system market with the launch of the new JioTele OS for televisions. It is claimed to offer a fast, premium and content-rich smart TV platform. The AI-powered content recommendation is said to make content discovery/consumption simpler and seamless. Here is what’s on offer.
JioTele OS for smart TVs
- Jio notes that there are approximately over 35 million connected TV households in India but many struggle with limited customisation and restricted access to high-quality regional content.
- The JioTele OS is claimed to offer AI-powered recommendations, seamless integration of global and regional content, support for leading apps and regular updates.
- The AI-powered recommendations mean that users can spend less time searching and more time consuming the content, says Jio.
- The JioTele OS is claimed to offer smooth, lag-gree 4K performance on supported TVs to enhance the user experience.
- The platform is also said to offer access to a vast library of TV channels, cloud games, OTT apps, and seamless switching between TV Channels. All of this with a single remote.
- The company is also promising regular software updates to ensure the TV OS stays compatible with new apps, content formats, and “evolving securities and technologies.”
JioTele OS availability and brand partnerships
As for availability, TVs powered by JioTele OS will be available starting February 21st, 2025. The company has partnered with several smart TV brands like BPL, JVC, Thomson, and Kodak. Jio says that it is working to add more names to the list in 2025. This is to ensure that Indian consumers get a wide range of options/choices.
The company already offers on-demand TV services with 800+ TV channels, OTT apps and more via IPSTB (Internet Protocol set-top-box) with its broadband connection. With JioTele OS, it is widening the service to TVs.
