The WhatsApp scam fake lottery message includes the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the logo of Sony Liv. The famous quiz show KBC is telecast on Sony Liv featuring Amitabh Bachchan, and the addition of the Sony Liv logo is aimed to make the message believable.

Further, the script is written in both Hindi and English, which claims that the target has won a Rs 25 lakh cash prize as part of a lucky draw with a lottery number, which seems fake. The messages are being sent from a +92 345 6808747 mobile number, and the 92 ISD code is for Pakistan.

What to do in such a case?

Cyber Crime Unit has stated that in such cases, the scammer contacts the target through WhatsApp and asks for personal details. The user should not share any personal information with the unknown number when claiming a free prize, as it could compromise the user’s security. The user should report the case to the nearest station. The scam messages are usually crafted oddly with faulty grammar and should be easy to identify.
