“Lenovo Z5s will not only be the first smartphone from the brand to feature a triple rear camera setup but also the first to have a hole in the display for the camera”
Lenovo Z5s was recently confirmed officially as the triple camera smartphone the Chinese brand is working on. Now a couple of new live images have appeared online, showing that the smartphone will also have a small cutout in the display to house the camera and sensors. This is the new approach that smartphone vendors are following to ensure full-screen displays without incorporating the notch.
The two live images of the Lenovo Z5s come via Chinese social networking site Weibo and show the smartphone with a tall display and a small circular cutout for the front camera and sensors. Lenovo Z5s in the two images has thin bezels on the sides as well as the top, while there is a relatively bigger chin at the bottom. From what is visible We can see the phone has rounded edges and a glossy plastic frame around the display.
A Lenovo smartphone with triple rear cameras was spotted on Chinese certification site TENAA last week. Soon after that, it was confirmed by an executive that this handset will be called Lenovo Z5s. In the images submitted to TENAA, the display was not in so this is the first time it has emerged that the first Lenovo phone with triple camera setup on the back will also be its first with a selfie camera hole in the display.
Update: Lenovo has confirmed it will be launching the Z5s smartphone in December, but has given no date
Samsung was the first to make such a display official as it teased the Infinity O design earlier this month. However, Huawei last week confirmed it will be launching the Nova 4 phone with a small cutout in the display in December, though no date has been set for the event yet. With Lenovo joining the fray too, it is a race between the two Chinese brands to bring such a handset to market since Samsung is not expected to release its first Infinity O-toting smartphone till early 2019.
