“LG has also released an Android 9 Pie update timeline for its smartphones in South Korea”
LG has started rolling out Android 9 Pie’s final build for its G7 ThinQ smartphone in South Korea. Going by the company’s usual policy, the update will arrive in other markets in the next couple of months. As for its previous flagships LG first releases updates in its home market before launching them globally a couple of months later. LG Korea also posted an official schedule in its forum, detailing the timeline of Android 9 release for its various smartphones including V40 and G6 among others.
LG has been beta testing the latest UI on G7 since December, but only in South Korea. The company has followed a similar strategy for its previous flagships too, wherein the beta build of a latest software is released only for South Korean users. Going by the timeline V35 ThinQ will receive the Android Pie update in the first quarter, while V40 ThinQ, V30 and V30s will receive the final build during the second quarter. Low-end devices including G6, V20, Q8, Q9 and X5 will be the last of devices to get the update that is during the third and final quarter.
The G7 ThinQ change log for Android 9 Pie includes the new gesture navigation and the battery optimisation features, security enhancements like managing folder access and Wi-Fi permissions for apps and enabling SD card encryption even without a secure lockscreen. Plus the LG V40’s Magic Photo feature has made it to G7 with the update.
