“The LG W30 is among the first India-centric, online-only W series smartphones and is a budget offering”

LG has launched the new W30 smartphone in India, which features a triple-rear camera setup and a large 4,000mAh battery. The phone competes with other budget offerings from Samsung, Realme, and Xiaomi. In this post, we are going to take a look at the differences between the new LG W30 and the Samsung Galaxy M20. Both these devices are priced similarly, but are not similar when it comes to the hardware. We believe that the LG W30 could be a new budget champion with the features it has to offer. First, let us look at the difference in the pricing. Well, there isn’t any to be honest. Both the LG W30 and the Samsung Galaxy M20 start at Rs 9,999. The Galaxy M20 is available in two configurations and recently received a price cut. The base variant with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage is priced at Rs 9,999. If you want the 4GB RAM and 64GB variant, then that will cost you Rs 11,990. The LG W30 is also priced at Rs 9,999 for the sole option with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. It will go on sale on July 3rd in India via Amazon.in. Now, let’s look at the specifications.

LG W30 vs Galaxy M20 specifications

In terms of design, both the LG W30 and the Galaxy M20 look quite similar. On the front, there’s a waterdrop notch and at the back, the camera setup is placed vertically on the left side. Both phones are also available in multiple colour options. However, that’s pretty much where the similarities end. Internally, there are plenty of differences between the two.

The LG W30 comes with a 6.26-inch HD+ display with 19:9 aspect ratio. The phone is powered by the MediaTek Helio P22 SoC, which is paired with up to 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. On the other hand, the Galaxy M20 is powered by an Exynos 7904, which can be coupled with up to 4GB RAM and up to 64GB onboard storage. It has a 6.3-inch full HD+ display, which means its better than the LG W30 display resolution.

For cameras, the LG phone gets a triple-rear camera setup that consists of a primary 12-megapixel sensor, a 13-megapixel wide-angle sensor, and a 2-megapixel depth unit. For selfies, there’s a 16-megapixel sensor placed inside the water drop notch. Coming to the Samsung model, this phone features a dual camera setup at the back. There’s a main 13-megapixel sensor, which is paired with a 5-megapixel depth sensor. On the front, it gets an 8-megapixel shooter. As you can see, the LG W30 will give you a better camera setup with an additional wide-angle camera at the back, and a higher resolution selfie unit.

Coming to the software and battery aspect of these devices, the Galaxy M20 houses a 5,000mAh battery and runs on Android 8.1 Oreo with One UI on top. That’s a large capacity battery and therefore, Samsung wins this round. The LG W30 comes with a 4,000mAh battery and runs stock Android 9.0 Pie. This means that the phone will have stock Android Pie features such as Google Assistant, Digital Wellbeing and more. Both the Galaxy M20 and the LG W30 feature a fingerprint scanner at the back.

In terms of hardware, both phones are different. If you want a higher resolution display and a bigger battery, then the Samsung Galaxy M20 is the answer. However, if you want a better camera setup, then the LG W30 is a better choice. Since it also runs a newer stock Android version, it should get faster software updates.
