MediaTek Dimensity 800 Series 5G chipsets with integrated 5G modems have launched after they were announced back in December. These processors will bring flagship features and 5G connectivity to mid-range smartphones. The MediaTek Dimensity 800 Series chipsets are based on a highly efficient 7nm process and support 5G with two carrier aggregation (2CC CA) for 30 percent wider high-speed layer coverage, seamless 5G handover, and higher average throughput performance. The SoCs also support both Stand Alone and Non-Standalone sub-6GHz networks and Dynamic Spectrum Sharing (DSS). The MediaTek Dimensity 800 5G series is capable of offering both data and voice on 5G and supports Voice over New Radio (VoNR).
MediaTek Dimensity 800 Series specifications
MediaTek Dimensity 800 Series chipsets feature four big ARM Cortex-A76 cores operating up to 2GHz and four power-efficient ARM Cortex-A55 cores operating at up to 2.0GHz. While the company didn’t reveal the GPU model, it mentioned that the chipset would come with Dimensity 1000-class GPU combined with MediaTek gaming technology – HyperEngine. The chipset family arrives with MediaTek’s APU 3.0 and provides up to 2.4TOPs performance boost. It is also claimed to bring a flagship-class image signal processor that supports up to four concurrent cameras with up to 64MP primary sensors or 32+16MP dual cameras that are backed by the hardware depth engine.
MediaTek Dimensity 800 Series also features AI-autofocus, auto exposure, auto white balance, noise reduction, high-dynamic-range (AI HDR) and dedicated facial detection hardware and multi-frame 4K video HDR capability (Video HDR). It supports Full HD+ displays up to 90Hz refresh rate. MediaTek has already started shipping out Dimensity 800 5G SoCs to OEMs, and smartphones powered by these chipsets are expected to launch in the first half of 2020.
