“The new MediaTek Helio P35 SoC will power smartphones in the affordable and mid-range segments”
Xiaomi has announced its Mi Play smartphone today, and with it, we saw the introduction of a new MediaTek chipset called the Helio P35. The mid-range silicon is touted to “create advanced dual-camera smartphones with AI-enhancements and rich connectivity.” It uses TSMC 12nm FinFET production process, which – according to the company – delivers performance without taking a toll on the battery.
The MediaTek Helio P35 SoC has eight ARM Cortex A53 CPU ticking at its core, with maximum clock speed of 2.3GHz. An IMG PowerVR GE8320 GPU running up to 680MHz is there to handle all the graphics-related activity. The chipset is backed by MediaTek CorePilot technology for power efficiency factor and reliable user experience. Smartphone manufacturers can use flexible LPDDR3/LPDDR4x memory with the chipset.
For photography, the SoC allows up to a 25-megapixel single sensor or dual 13-megapixel + 13-megapixel snappers with simulated Depth of Field (bokeh) effect. “MediaTek’s Electronic Image Stabilization (EIS) is paired to the Rolling Shutter Compensation (RSC) cleverly mitigates warped (‘jello effect’) video when capturing fast action or panning,” reads the company’s statement.
Other than that, the chip is said to offer improved low-light performance, zoom technology, and multi-frame noise reduction. It also makes use of MediaTek’s Instant Auto Exposure (AE) and the Camera Control Unit (CCU) to help faster-focusing exposure adjustment when environmental lighting conditions change suddenly. Other features include MediaTek’s NeuroPilot support for AI frameworks and Light AI-enhancements such as Face ID and Smart Photo Album.
On the display front, the Helio P35 semiconductor supports a Full HD+ resolution with an aspect ratio of 20:9, which essentially translates to a fully bezel-less device. Connectivity options include dual-SIM 4G support with both VoLTE/ ViLTE connections, GPS/ GLONASS/ Beidou/ Galileo, Bluetooth 5, and Wi-Fi 802.11ac.
