“The MEIZU 16s will come as a successor to the MEIZU 16th and flaunt flagship-grade spec sheet”
MEIZU recently made a comeback into the Indian handset market with the launch of three new smartphones – MEIZU C9, M6T (first impressions) and M16th (review). The latter comes in as the 16th flagship smartphone from the brand and hence the name. Now, MEIZU CEO, J. Wong has gone ahead and confirmed several details regarding the upcoming flagship – M16s on the official forums.
Following the launch of the Qualcomm’s latest – Snapdragon 855, few fans were quick to head to MEIZU forums and ask if the next flagship from the brand will come with the same. According to a recent report in Chinese media, in answer to a query by a fan, Wong responded that the upcoming MEIZU 16s will indeed come powered by the latest and greatest – Snapdragon 855. However, it remains to be whether the next smartphone will come with support for 5G connectivity, which was the highlight of the new flagship processor at the recently concluded Qualcomm summit.
Wong further went on to say that despite having the latest processor, the next flagship will give the ultra-sonic fingerprint reader from Qualcomm. The reason given by the top executive for this decision was that the technology requires an OLED panel, which rules out the possibility of the OLED display as well. However, the CEO did reveal that the smartphone will come with a Sony IMX580 sensor but didn’t confirm whether it will be a triple or dual camera setup. Sticking to his earlier statement of display camera hole not being an ideal solution, Wong maintained that the MEIZU 16s will not have the display hole for the selfie camera.
As for the launch and availability, there is still some time go before we see MEIZU 16s coming out. However, a recent leak has suggested that the smartphone will be priced at at RMB 3,500, which is roughly Rs 35,700.
