“Meizu plans to launch the M16-TH smartphones to take on OnePlus 6T, along with two affordable handsets to compete with Xiaomi”
Meizu will launch three smartphones in India as it plans to re-enter the country, according to industry sources. The company has not launched a smartphone in the Indian market since July last year. Meizu will be following a two-pronged strategy as it aims to wrest market share away from Chinese rivals OnePlus and Xiaomi. The launch event will be scheduled for the first week of December.
To compete with the OnePlus 6T in the premium segment, Meizu plans to launch the M16-TH smartphone. Apart from these, two more smartphones are planned for the affordable segment, likely to take on Xiaomi. A month later, in January 2019, the company plans to launch two more smartphones in India.
Chinese smartphone brands have made significant inroads into the Indian market, with Xiaomi becoming the biggest smartphone vendor in the country with a market share of 27.3 percent as per IDC. Similarly, OnePlus has 37 percent share of the premium smartphone segment, the market research firm says. On the other hand, Comio just today confirmed it is exiting the Indian market, with CEO of the India unit filing a police complaint against the China-based management team for not settling the dues.
Coming to the Meizu 16-TH specifications, the smartphone has a 6-inch full-HD+ (1,080 x 2,160 pixel) display and runs the flagship Snapdragon 845 SoC clocked up to 2.8GHz. Powered by Android Oreo-based Flyme 7 custom UI, the smartphone comes in 6GB + 64GB and 8GB + 128GB variants. There is a 12MP (f/1.8) + 20MP (f/2.0) dual camera setup on the back, with OIS, 3x zoom, laser autofocus, and Portrait mode. Similarly, on the front is a 20MP camera with f/2.0 aperture, AI face recognition, and bokeh mode. It has an in-display fingerprint sensor, water-cooling for heat dissipation, dual stereo speakers, USB Type-C port, and 3,010mAh battery.
