MG Motor India has rolled out the first production unit of the MG Comet EV, which is all set to launch in India on April 19th. The unit has been produced at the company’s Halol plant in Gujarat. As anticipated, the MG Comet EV is designed to be an affordable electric car for the Indian market, with a focus on being suitable for city driving. It is based on the Global Small Electric Vehicle (GSEV) platform of SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) and features a solid steel chassis, high-strength body, and 17 hot stamping panels. The car has a two-spoke steering wheel with iPod-inspired controls and is expected to be priced competitively, likely under Rs 10 lakh.

MG Comet EV features

The MG Comet EV is equipped with various technology features such as the Internet of Vehicles (IoV), multimedia, and connected features. The vehicle has a dashboard with two large screens called the ‘Intelligent Tech Dashboard,’ which comprises a 10.25-inch head unit and a 10.25-inch digital cluster. The entertainment system has widgets of different dimensions, with three fully customizable pages providing access to a range of entertainment, navigation, and connectivity options.

MG Comet EV specifications and price

The MG Comet EV is a three-door hatchback, measuring 2,974mm in length, 1,631mm in height, and 1,505mm in width. It will be powered by a 20kWh battery pack and is expected to have a range of approximately 250km, certified by iCAT. The car could produce approximately 45 bhp at the rear axle and 110Nm of peak torque. The EV might come equipped with features such as an electric parking brake, hill-start assist, keyless entry and go, drive modes, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and voice commands.

The MG Comet EV price in India hasn’t been announced yet, but it is speculated to cost under Rs 10 lakh. This will make it the most affordable EV from MG in the country yet.
