Xiaomi launched the Mi 11X smartphone in India alongside the Mi 11X Pro and Mi 11Ultra on Friday. The phone features the Snapdragon 870 processor and it starts at Rs 29,999. Recently, OnePlus also launched a Snapdragon 870-powered smartphone, the OnePlus 9R, and it starts at Rs 39,999. While the Mi 11X and the OnePlus 9R feature the same processor, there is a Rs 10,000 price difference between them. So, the question is, should you spend the extra Rs 8,000 and get the OnePlus 9R or should you save that money and get the Mi 11X. Well, that is what we are gonna discuss today. Let us compare the Mi 11X and the OnePlus 9R and find out which smartphone is worth buying.

Mi 11X vs OnePlus 9R: prices in India

The Mi 11X price in India starts at Rs 29,999 for the 6GB+128GB variant. It is also available in the 8GB+128GB option and this model costs Rs 31,999.

The OnePlus 9R, on the other hand, costs Rs 39,999 for the 8GB RAM+128GB version. The phone also comes in 12GB RAM+256GB configuration and it costs 43,999.

If we consider the same RAM and storage configurations of both smartphones, the Mi 11X is Rs 8,000 cheaper compared to the OnePlus 9R. However, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the Mi 11X is a better option as there are factors to consider as well, mainly, specifications, which we’ll be taking a look at below.

Mi 11X vs OnePlus 9R: specifications

Display

The Mi 11X features a 6.67-inch display, whereas, the OnePlus 9R features a smaller 6.55-inch screen. Displays of both smartphones offer FHD+ resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, support for HDR10+, and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. So, these displays are basically the same, right?

Well, no. The biggest difference between the two screens is that the one on the Mi 11X has a center-mounted punch-hole and that on the OnePlus 9R has a left-mounted punch-hole. The center punch-hole not only looks good aesthetically but also doesn’t come in your way while you are playing games. The same cannot be said for the OnePlus 9R. So, when it comes to displays, the Mi 11X definitely has an upper hand.

Performance and software

The Mi 11X as well as the OnePlus 9R feature the Snapdragon 870 chipset. This chipset is capable enough to handle the heaviest of tasks and graphics-intensive games with ease. Both smartphones also have dedicated cooling systems to keep the SoC temperature in check. Moreover, the Mi 11X and the OnePlus 9R are available in 8GB RAM+128GB storage variants, which, in my opinion, will be sufficient for most people. So, when it comes to performance, the Mi 11 X and the OnePlus 9R perform similarly, and therefore it is a tie between both smartphones.

When it comes to software, the Mi 11X and the OnePlus 9R feature the Android 11 OS. While the Mi 11X comes with MIUI 12 customization, the OnePlus 9R comes with OxygenOS 11 skin on top. Although software design is a personal preference, there are many who seem to prefer the stock Android look of OxygenOS over MIUI 12. That said, MIUI 12 on Mi phones, including Mi 11X, offers an ad-free experience.

Cameras

The imaging department is where things get interesting. Starting with the Mi 11X, it gets a 48MP primary camera, 8MP ultrawide camera, and 5MP camera. The OnePlus 9R, on the other hand, has 48MP primary camera, 16MP ultra-wide camera, a 5MP macro camera, and a 2MP monochrome sensor. As for selfies, the Mi 11X has a 20-megapixel camera and the OnePlus 9R gets a 16-megapixel sensor.

While the primary camera of both smartphones is the same, the OnePlus 9R has an upper hand when it comes to the ultrawide sensor, as it has a higher resolution compared to that of the Mi 11X. Plus, the OnePlus 9R offers 4K video recording at 60 frames per second, which, the Mi 11X doesn’t. The high frame rate recording in 4K resolution makes a huge difference in video quality. Also, let us not consider the 2MP/5MP cameras of both devices because we all know that these sensors don’t add any real value.

With the higher resolution ultrawide camera and 4K/60fps video recording, the OnePlus 9R is a clear winner compared to the Mi 11X when it comes to imaging.

Battery

The Mi 11X packs a 4,520mAh battery, whereas, the OnePlus 9R has a 4,500mAh unit. Since both smartphones have similar battery capacities and displays, and the same processor, there won’t be much difference between the battery life of the Mi 11X and the OnePlus 9R.

However, when it comes to the charging speed, the OnePlus 9R is way ahead of the Mi 11X. The OnePlus 9R supports 65W charging whereas, the Mi 11X has a 33W charging speed. While 33W charging is by no means slow, the 65W charging on the OnePlus 9R is on totally another level. According to OnePlus, the OnePlus 9R can charge from zero to 100 per cent in 39 minutes, which is much faster than the 52-minute full charging claim from Xiaomi.

Since the OnePlus 9R has a faster charging speed, it takes the crown when it comes to battery experience.

Connectivity and other features

The Mi 11X and the OnePlus 9R feature similar connectivity options. Both smartphones support two SIM cards, 5G connectivity, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.1, dual-band GPS, NFC, and USB Type-C port. However, the Mi 11X also gets an infrared blaster, which will help you control your home appliance and electronics. While the OnePlus 9R has an in-display fingerprint scanner, the Mi 11X gets a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. Both smartphones also come with stereo speakers.

Mi 11X vs OnePlus 9R: verdict

If you want a clean software experience, a better ultrawide camera, and faster charging, the OnePlus 9R is the one for you. The Mi 11X is not far behind though. The image quality from its ultrawide camera and the phone’s charging speed is sufficient for most people. Plus, you can turn off the advertisements on the Mi 11X from its settings. The Mi 11X also has an edge over the OnePlus 9R when it comes to display and connectivity.

With its substantially lower price tag, we think that the Mi 11X offers more value for money compared to the OnePlus 9R. If you can’t spend more money, the Mi 11X is a perfectly sufficient high-end phone.
