“Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro with in-display fingerprint sensor has finally stepped out of China with the Taiwan launch”
Xiaomi has pulled the wraps off the Mi 8 Pro in Taiwan, the first country it has been unveiled in outside China. The smartphone was earlier launched in Xiaomi’s home market with the Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition moniker. As the name would suggest, the device offers an on-screen fingerprint sensor as its highlight, alongside infrared based face unlock. This launch comes soon after the Mi 8 Lite – launched alongside the Mi 8 Screen Fingerprint Edition in China – was launched in Ukraine as its first global market.
Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro price, specifications
The Xiaomi Mi 8 Pro price in Taiwan has been set as NT 15,999 (~Rs 38,220) and will be offered in only a single configuration, 8GB of RAM and 128GB internal storage. The smartphone can be purchased from the official Xiaomi website in the country, and will reportedly be available via offline stores as well.
The Mi 8 Pro features a 6.21-inch AMOLED display set at an aspect ratio of 18:7:9 and display resolution of 1,080 x 2,248. Xiaomi claims to have improved the accuracy of the on-screen fingerprint sensor by fine-tuning the algorithm. The company adds that unlocking speed has increased by 29 percent and the accuracy by 8.8 percent compared to the Mi 8 Explorer edition. The smartphone packs the Snapdragon 845 SoC. The smartphone’s transparent back allows buyers to see the internals through the rear casing.
Imaging options on the Mi 8 Pro include a dual rear camera setup consisting of a 12-megapixel wide angle lens and a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. Meanwhile, the front/selfie camera shapes up in the form of a 20-megapixel sensor. Other camera features include Dual PD dual-core focus and AI backed scene recognition technology.
Dual GPS is yet another mention worthy feature. This particular module is designed to minimise the interference and improve the overall GPS connectivity. Xiaomi has also added an advanced cooling system for better thermal management. On the software front, the Mi 8 Pro runs on MIUI 10-based on Android Oreo.
