Alongside Mi 10 Ultra and Redmi K30 Ultra, Xiaomi also launched Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition at its 10th-anniversary event in China yesterday. It’s the world’s first commercial smart TV with a see-through display. The Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition, as the name suggests, packs a transparent screen that gives an appearance of a window when turned off, and when switched on makes images look as if they are floating. This is possible with the new transparent OLED technology aka TOLED that sports transparent components all the way through the stack that makes up the screen, with no need for backlighting and cathode layer that we see on traditional OLED TVs. Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition price, availability

The Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition price in China is set at RMB 49,999, which roughly translate to Rs 5,37,000 in the Indian currency. The TV will go on sale in the country from August 16th. There is no word on the international availability of the TV at the moment.

Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition specifications

The Mi TV LUX Transparent Edition ships with a 55-inch FHD (1,920 x 1,080p) OLED display that bears a 120Hz refresh rate, MEMC, Dolby Vision, 178-degree viewing angle, 1ms response time, 150,000:1 contrast ratio, and 93 percent DCI-P3 colour profile. The display, which is just 5.7mm thick, stands on a circular base that houses all the components including custom-made quad-core MediaTek MT9650 processor with Mali-G52 MC1 GPU, 3GB RAM, and 32GB storage onboard.

Xiaomi claims that the TV is backed by AI Master Smart Engine, with over 20 optimization algorithms and dedicated optimization for five major use scenarios and AI Master for Audio that intelligently detects the type of content playing and chooses a fitting audio mode such as movies, music, newsfeed, sports, and more. The Mi TV LUX also has Dolby Atmos sound support and a custom version of MIUI for TV to take care of software side of things. The UI has been tweaked to take advantage of the transparent display, with an Always-On display mode to display images and text while the TV is not in use. Connectivity options include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, 3x HDMI 2.1, 2x USB, S/PDIF, and Ethernet.
