At the Xiaomi 12 launch event yesterday, the Chinese tech giant unveiled the MIUI 13 custom skin. This comes after the company had introduced the MIUI 12 back in April last year and MIUI 12.5 in December. While MIUI 13 doesn’t bring any major changes over the existing MIUI 12.5 enhanced version, Xiaomi says the overall fluidity has been increased by up to 52 percent, which should offer a more seamless experience. The new MIUI 13 focuses on optimising computing capabilities for core apps during load. Interestingly, Xiaomi has branched its MIUI skin into three categories this time around: MIUI 13, MIUI 13 Pad, and MIUI 13 Fold. This means the software is optimised for smartphones, tablets, and foldables respectively. It also released MIUI Watch, MIUI Home, MIUI TV, and Xiaomi smart devices.

MIUI 13 brings a new font called MiSans. The company says that it is a simple font optimised for Chinese and English languages to present clear visibility and comfortable reading. The font is part of Dynamic Font System 2.0 and it inherits OpenType features, meaning the height of hyphens automatically adapts to uppercase and lowercase letters.

Thanks to Apple, Xiaomi has now introduced dynamic widgets with MIUI 13. The company has been testing this feature since August 2021 and some of these widgets are similar to other custom skins. There are chances these might not find their way to international versions. There are new dynamic wallpapers, face verification protection, document watermarking, and telecommunication fraud protection.
Other notable features include widgets for mini-games, countdowns, reminders to drink water, what to eat today suggestions and more. There’s a customisable Xiao AI Virtual Assistant that allows users to create their own customised avatar for Xiaomi’s Xiao AI virtual assistant in China. There are over 50 sets of clothing and accessories. The MIUI 13 system protects users from spam calls/texts, malicious applications, and harmful file transfers.
The new Mi Magic Center allows users to manage their Xiaomi ecosystem products from under a single roof. However, only a select few devices are compatible with Mi Magic Center.
