“MIUI launcher alpha version for the Global ROM has surfaced online that brings the app drawer to Xiaomi phones”

Xiaomi introduced the App Drawer on its MIUI launcher back in June 2019 but it was only limited to the China ROM. Recently, the launcher received an update that introduced App shortcuts and App sharing shortcuts. Now, the MIUI launcher alpha version for the Global ROM has surfaced online that finally brings the app drawer to Xiaomi smartphones. However, it isn’t enabled by default and users have to turn it from the Home Screen settings. The app drawer feature is only available via an APK file that you can download here. Unfortunately, there’s no way to tell when Xiaomi is planning on rolling out the feature to the stable global MIUI, but we’ll update you as and when it happens.

For now, interested users can download the alpha build of the MIUI Launcher on Xiaomi phones running MIUI and give it a shot. But since it is not a stable build, there are chances of it crashing or having bugs and might not be suitable for daily use. This latest update brings the MIUI Launcher a step closer to the POCO launcher, which already has features like app suggestions, app categories, the search bar at the bottom of the app drawer, ability to change the icon size and home screen layout.

Separately, Xiaomi had confirmed that it kick-started the development of MIUI 12 and also revealed the logo. It is said to bring enhanced global system-wide dark theme to third-party apps and since its the 10th anniversary of MIUI custom skin, Xiaomi is expected to bring special features to compliment the milestone. The MIUI 12 should improve app launch speed and performance.
