Mivi is making its entry into India’s smartphone market with the Mivi One 5G, and the company has now confirmed that its first phone will launch on September 24th. The Hyderabad-based brand, best known for earphones, speakers and other audio products, is expanding into smartphones after a decade of developing, designing and manufacturing consumer technology in India.
Mivi has confirmed that the phone will use a Qualcomm Snapdragon 5G chipset, but hasn’t yet revealed its exact processor, price or complete specifications. A recent Geekbench listing, however, points to the Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 and 6GB RAM.
Mivi One 5G: what we know so far
A Geekbench 7 listing for a device identified as Mivi MVNOE shows a Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 chipset paired with 6GB RAM and Android 16. The phone scored 677 in the single-core test and 1,490 in the multi-core test. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 2 isn’t a new chip, but it can still handle everyday tasks while providing 5G connectivity. Using a proven budget chipset could also help Mivi keep the price under control at a time when higher memory costs are pushing smartphone prices upwards.
Mivi hasn’t confirmed that the Geekbench listing belongs to the One 5G, so these specifications should be treated as unconfirmed for now. The company has also yet to reveal details such as the display, cameras, battery and charging speeds.
The Mivi One will be sold through Flipkart and is being promoted with a “Pretty Powerful” tagline. The listing shows a green version with rounded corners, while Mivi says the phone has been developed with Indian consumer requirements in mind. Its entry comes at an interesting time for the budget smartphone market. Our exclusive noted that it’ll be the only phone in the sub-Rs 15,000 segment with a Snapdragon chipset. Phones below Rs 15,000 have increasingly shifted towards 4G, leaving fewer choices for buyers who want 5G connectivity without spending more.
That could give Mivi an opening against established brands such as Redmi, Realme and Motorola. To make a mark, though, it will need to combine 5G with competitive battery life, clean software and dependable hardware. Fire-Boltt has also recently entered the smartphone market with the Boltt Ace and Boltt Evo, while Philips launched the S7221 5G at Rs 20,499.
If you’re looking for a 5G phone below Rs 15,000, the Mivi One is worth waiting for before choosing an existing model. Its combination of 5G and a potentially low price could make it relevant in a segment where choices have become more limited. The final verdict will depend on the price and hardware Mivi announces. The company will need to offer more than a Snapdragon chipset to compete with established budget brands, but with the launch confirmed for September 24, buyers won’t have to wait much longer to see what its first smartphone brings.
