“The XQ Dual is among the few smartphones to offer dual selfie cameras in the sub-Rs 10,000 segment”
Mobiistar, a Vietnamese smartphone company, has just ventured into the hyper-competitive smartphone market in India. The brand was started less than a decade ago and has quickly become one of the leading phonemakers in its home country. Soon after expanding to South East Asia and Gulf countries, the company is now making a debut in the world’s second-largest smartphone market. Aiming to stand out amidst the competition, Mobiistar has introduced two phones in the “Selfie Star” series, dubbed the CQ and XQ Dual. Both handsets are packed with features and have been priced quite aggressively too. With a promise of “bringing more for less“, the duo is also catering to the fast-growing selfie trend in the subcontinent.
First off, the Mobiistar XQ Dual sports a 5.5-inch full HD IPS display with a pixel density of 400ppi and Asahi Dragontrail 2.5D glass protection on top. It’s powered by the Snapdragon 430 SoC, coupled with an Adreno 505 GPU. For memory, the smartphone ships with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage.
The key highlight of the XQ Dual is its 13MP + 8MP dual front-facing camera setup. The 13MP sensor makes use of a f/2.0 aperture, while the secondary 8MP sensor features a f/2.2 aperture. Additionally, the company has also built a Beauty filter which uses enhanced photo-processing algorithms to make your selfies look richer by brightening and softening the skin. What’s more, there’s also the option to use screen flash in order to capture better selfies in low light. Moving on, the rear camera has a 13MP f/2.0 sensor with dual-tone LED flash and phase detection autofocus. The phonemaker has also included a wide array of modes including seven-level Face Beauty mode, HDR, Night mode, a Pro mode as well as camera filters.
The dual-SIM smartphone packs a 3,000mAh battery and comes with all the connectivity options you would want in a budget smartphone – 4G, VoLTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and even a 3.5mm headphone jack. Despite packing so much, Mobiistar has managed to price the XQ Dual quite attractively at just Rs 7,999.
And if you thought that was a steal, think again. The Mobiistar CQ comes with an even lower price tag of Rs 4,999. Much like its elder sibling, the CQ is also a dual-SIM smartphone, however it uses a compact 5-inch 720p display in lieu of the 5.5-inch panel found inside the XQ Dual. Furthermore, the CQ is equipped with a Snapdragon 425 SoC (which is impressive, given the price), coupled with 2GB of RAM. In terms of cameras, the phone sports a single 8MP rear camera with LED flash, as well as a 13MP front camera for selfies and video calling. Yes, you’re getting a 13MP front camera even in the sub-Rs 5,000 range… something which is unheard of, till now.
Okay, so we’ve established that the CQ and XQ Dual come with great specifications and cameras at affordable prices. But interestingly, that’s not all the company has to offer. Customers opting for the new Mobiistar smartphones would be able to get a guaranteed Rs 1,000 exchange offer for their old handset. Additionally, the company is also offering a “Complete Mobile Protection Plan” for the smartphones which not only takes care of software and hardware issues, but also accidental damages like a broken screen and liquid spills. This service will be available for just Rs 99 and come with doorstep pickup and drop as well. Lastly, the duo also come with Reliance Jio’s Football Offer, meaning you can get up to Rs 2,200 cashback in the form of vouchers of Rs 50 when you recharge with an eligible Jio plan before June 30th.
All in all, the Mobiistar CQ and XQ Dual come across as interesting, VFM propositions that will especially appeal to selfie aficionados. The brand seems to have made a solid start in the country, and we can’t wait to see what else it has in store for us.
