Highlights
  • ASUS ROG Phone 5 was the most powerful Android phone in March 2021.
  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 is the common link between these top phones.
  • iQOO 7 slips down to the second spot after ASUS debuts with the ROG Phone 5.

There is no doubt in anyone’s mind these days that Android phones have become a powerhouse in the truest sense. In 2021, we have top-end Android smartphones running on the Snapdragon 888 chipset with up to a mammoth 18GB RAM and 512GB storage. So, this is a good time to take a look at some of the most powerful Android phones that have been launched until now. Antutu has come out with a detailed list of best-performing Android phones. It has collected data for the period March 1st to March 31st, 2021.

Here are the top 5 most powerful Android phones in the market with their average test scores:

Android phones AntuTu list

1. ASUS ROG Phone 5 – 731,376

ASUS bucked the trend in 2021 by launching its new ROG Phone gaming device earlier than its predecessors. What this has done is give us a new leader of the pack. And why not as the ASUS ROG Phone 5 is one of the first in the market to offer a whopping 18GB RAM onboard. That itself is a good reason to give it top marks. However, you cannot discount the device for its overall package. Yes, the design hasn’t changed much but the performance and heat dissipation ability are undoubted, as per Antutu.

ROG Phone 5 features a 6.78-inch AMOLED display, with support for a 144Hz refresh rate. It comes powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, and one of the first to get LPDDR5 18GB RAM in a phone.

2. iQOO 7 – 724,333

The iQOO 7 ranks second on this list, which makes it more interesting as the flagship is making its way to India soon. It is one of the most affordable smartphones to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. In fact, before the ASUS ROG Phone 5 came in, this device topped the chart in February.

The iQOO 7 is an attractive package, especially now that it has LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.1 storage technology, and 120W fast charging support. Even the most skeptic buyer would find these features appealing and willing to take a punt on a device that costs 1/3rd of most flagship phones out there. iQOO 7 is set to launch in India on April 26th.

3. Mi 11 – 710,572

Xiaomi is an obvious contender in this category with the new Mi 11 series. This was the first device to launch with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 flagship chipset. Performance-wise, this list is a clear indication the new SoC from Qualcomm is a beast, and the Antutu scores prove that loud and clear.

The Mi 11 sports a 6.81-inch AMOLED 120Hz refresh rate display, up to 12GB DDR5 RAM, and UFS 3.1 storage technology.

4. Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G – 673,108

You might find it strange but even after introducing its flagships a month earlier, Samsung fails to make the top 3 with the new Galaxy S21 Ultra. This particular device is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 variant in the US. The company is selling the 12GB + 256GB storage model in its global markets. And that device is part of the top 5 list for Antutu. However, when you look at the performance comparison with the top three, you realise there is a gulf in the scores reported by the benchmarking platform.

The Galaxy S21 Ultra 5G comes with a 6.8-inch AMOLED 2X display, supporting 120Hz dynamic refresh rate and Quad HD+ screen resolution at 1440 pixels.

5. Oppo Find X3 Pro – 672,605

Oppo is the third Chinese brand in the top 5 of this list by Antutu. The brand has managed to usurp the Exynos variant of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra with its Find X3 Pro flagship. As you can see in the table, there is very little to separate between the Find X3 Pro and the Snapdragon variant of the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.

These test results of the hardware inside these devices illustrate the capabilities of flagship devices these days, no matter who the manufacturer is. It is hardly surprising to see Oppo become a top brand in China and make a mark for itself in the global rankings with devices like the Find X3 Pro.

The phone sports a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED 120Hz display which offers 1440 pixels resolution. You can buy the Find X3 Pro with up to 12GB RAM and 256GB storage that supports UFS 3.1 technology. You also get 65W wired fast charging, 30W wireless charging, and 10W reverse wireless charging.
