Moto G73 vs Redmi Note 12 5G: Price and availability
Redmi Note 12 5G (review) retails in India at Rs 17,999 for the base 4GB RAM and 128GB storage model, while the 6GB RAM and 128GB storage variant is priced at 19,999. In contrast, the Moto G73 5G ships with Rs 18,999 price tag for the sole 8GB RAM and 256GB storage option. That said, the handset can be fetched at a discounted price of Rs 16,999 as part of its introductory offer.
The Redmi Note 12 5G is already available for sale in India, while the Moto G73 sale will begin on March 16th via online and offline stores.

Design
The vanilla Note 12 5G has a similar design as its elder sibling, the Note 12 Pro 5G. Redmi made the Note 12 5G with polycarbonate glass on the back and Corning Gorilla Glass 3-protected display, sandwiching its plastic chassis. The curved rear panel features a glossy square island housing a triple camera setup and a LED flash. It is available in three shades: Frosted Green, Matte Black, and Mystique Blue.
The device is slim, with a 165.9×76.2×8 mm overall footprint, and lightweight – tipping the scale at 188g. Redmi Note 12 5G has an IP53 water and dust rating and should give some protection against water splashes. It has a side-mounted fingerprint reader, which sits below the volume rocker on the right side for security.
If you’ve ever owned a Motorola smartphone, the Moto G73 should feel like home. It flaunts a typical Motorola design made with plastic. Like the Redmi Note 12 5G, the Moto G73 has a curved rear panel with a simple design, keeping the device’s aesthetics minimalist. The back panel houses a shiny square bump with a dual-camera setup and an LED flash. Moto G73 comes in Lucent White and Midnight Blue colourways.
The smartphone measures 161.4×73.8×8.3 mm and weighs 181g, making it even slimmer and lighter than the Note 12 5G. That said, the Moto G73 has an IP52 rating — one tier down from the Note 12 5G — which the company claims to be water-repellent. It has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, which sits below the volume buttons on the right fascia.
Display
The Redmi Note 12 5G has a slightly better display configuration than the Moto G73. You get a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel that supports a 120Hz high refresh rate, 1200 nits peak brightness, 2400×1080 pixel FHD+ resolution, and 395PPI. During our testing, we found the sunlight legibility of Note 12 5G’s display decent and the colour science and viewing angles remarkable. It has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout at the top for a front-facing snapper and flaunts thin bezels besides a thick bottom chin.
On the other hand, the Moto G73 has a 6.5-inch IPS LCD panel that supports a 120Hz high refresh rate, 2400×1080 pixel FHD+ resolution, and 405PPI. Unfortunately, it lacks display protection. The device has a centre-aligned punch-hole cutout for the selfie camera and thin bezels apart from a thick chin at the bottom. Performance
While we’re yet to test the water of Moto G73, the device packs a superior hardware configuration than the Note 12 5G and should — at least on paper — offer better performance among them both. It draws power from MediaTek Dimensity 930 SoC fabricated on the 6nm process and features IMG BXM-8-256 GPU, 8GB RAM, and 256GB storage.
The Redmi Note 12 5G has been launched with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 SoC, which is fabricated on the 6nm process. It ships with Adreno 618 GPU, 4GB/6GB RAM, and 128GB storage. With this loadout, the Note 12 scored 366,146 points in the AnTuTu benchmark test and 635 and 1,991 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively, in Geekbench. The Redmi Note 12 5G falls a little behind the Moto G73 in benchmark results. Both devices have a microSD card slot for additional storage.
Battery and charging
The Redmi Note 12 5G packs a massive 5,000mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging. The smartphone should last you an entire day on a single charge. The handset scored 16 hours and 21 minutes on the PCMark’s Battery benchmarking test. With the 33W charger, the Redmi Note 12 5G takes more than an hour to refuel the device from 0-100 percent.
A generous 5,000mAh battery powers the Moto G73 5G, allowing you to use it continuously all day. While its 30W TurboPower charging is a bit slower than the Redmi Note 12 5G’s 33W charging speed, on paper. However, the 3W variation shouldn’t offer a day and night difference.
Cameras
The Redmi Note 12 5G offers a better camera configuration than the Moto G73. You get a triple rear camera setup with the Note 12 5G vs a dual rear camera setup with the Moto G73. However, the Redmi Note 12 5G uses a 48MP primary shooter, while the Moto G73 equips a 50MP primary sensor. Both smartphones can capture videos at 1080p resolution, but the Moto G73 can do it at 60 fps, while the Note 12 5G maxes out at 30fps.
Besides the 48MP snapper, you get an 8MP ultrawide lens and a 2MP macro sensor with the Redmi Note 12 5G. On the other hand, the Moto G73 features an additional 8MP ultrawide lens. The Redmi Note 12 5G has a 13MP front-facing snapper, while the Moto G73 packs a better 16MP shooter for selfies and video calls.

Software
While both smartphones broke cover recently, only the Moto G73 ships with the latest Android 13 OS out of the box, as the Redmi Note 12 5G runs on older Android 12 OS. Although the Moto G73 has MyUX flavouring on top, it offers a stock Android experience with strong Material You aspects in the UI. You get Moto Secure to store important documents safely. With the Note 12 5G, Redmi delivers its MIUI 13 custom skin on top of Android 12 OS mixed with Xiaomi-centric styling.
Motorola promises three years of security patches and one major Android update for the Moto G73. Meanwhile, the Redmi Note 12 5g will get two Android software updates and four years of security patches. This means both the G73 and Note 12 5G will get Android updates up to Android 14, but the Note 12 5G will get one extra year of security updates than the G73.
