Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ is the latest premium mid-range phone from the brand in India. It is also the most premium model in the Edge 70 lineup. The smartphone brings a periscope camera, a slim and lightweight design, and a sizeable 6,500mAh battery. With the Edge 70 Pro+, Motorola also caters to a more premium price segment for the Edge lineup. The Edge 70 Pro+ is also quite close to the Edge 70 Pro, which sits just below it in the lineup. Both phones share several key specifications, making them similar in many areas.

The Edge 70 Pro launched at Rs 38,999, but its price was hiked recently, so now it has a starting price of Rs 39,999. Still, there’s a difference of Rs 8,000 between the two phones, so it’s a clear distinction in terms of budget.

Motorola phones are known for their striking similarities in design, so the Edge 70 Pro+ and Edge 70 Pro are no different. It’s a square-shaped camera module at the back with curved edges and different Pantone finishes on both phones. The Edge 70 Pro+ and Edge 70 Pro also weigh the same (190g), so it might be hard to decipher between the two phones. Both phones also come with IP68/69 ratings and MIL-STD-810H military-grade durability. 

The choice might come down to the colour variants. The Edge 70 Pro+ comes in three Pantone finishes: Chicory Coffee, Zinfandel, and Stormy Sea. The Edge 70 Pro is also available in three options: Pantone Lily White, Pantone Titan, and Pantone Tea. Based on their colour options, the Edge 70 Pro appears more subtle and muted, while the Pro+ adds a more premium and royal feel. 

Display also turns out to be the same with a 6.8-inch 1.5K Extreme AMOLED screen on the Edge 70 Pro+ and Edge 70 Pro. The panel supports 5,200 nits peak brightness, up to 144Hz refresh rate, HDR10+, and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection on top. 

Essentially, you’re getting more or less the same phone when it comes to design and display.

Cameras are a big differentiator between the two phones. The Edge 70 Pro+ has the upper hand here with a 50MP periscope telephoto lens and support for 3.5x optical zoom, along with 50x super zoom. This gives the Edge 70 Pro+ an advantage in areas like wildlife and sports photography and capturing detailed portraits as well. This is accompanied by a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultra-wide lens with macro vision. The selfie camera is a 50MP sensor as well. 

With the Edge 70 Pro, you get a 50MP main camera and a 50MP ultra-wide lens at the back. There’s a 3-in-1 light sensor as well, and a 50MP front camera for selfies. While it doesn’t have a dedicated telephoto lens, the smartphone still offers a variety of focal lengths with the primary camera for portraits. Still, the final results may not be as detailed as you would get with the respective hardware. 

Here, the answer is clear. If you want a versatile camera setup with a periscope telephoto lens in particular, the Edge 70 Pro+ is the better pick. But if cameras are not a priority and you’re more into casual photography, then the Edge 70 Pro should do just fine.

Both the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ and Edge 70 Pro are powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8500 Extreme chipset paired with LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.1 storage. This means that you should get a very similar performance from both phones. This is a powerful mid-range that delivers smooth everyday performance. So you shouldn’t have any issues running regular or moderate tasks on either of the phones. In comparison to rivals in the segment, there are top performers but the Edge 70 Pro series doesn’t fall short in terms of handling moderate to extensive tasks. 

Battery capacity is also the same as the Edge 70 Pro+ and Edge 70 Pro, both of which house a 6,500mAh battery with 90W wired charging support. There’s one difference, though, and that’s wireless charging, which is available only on the Pro+. Although it’s capped at 15W, it’s still a premium feature. 

Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ vs Edge 70 Pro: software

With the Edge 70 Pro+ and Edge 70 Pro, you get Android 16-based Hello UI out of the box. This is the latest Android version available at present. Both phones are also promised three major OS upgrades and five years of security patches. This means that you’re getting the same UI and software support with either of the phones. Hello UI is known for delivering a clean and stock Android-like software experience with a suite of AI features for editing, taking notes, and more.

As mentioned above, the Motorola Edge 70 Pro+ and Edge 70 Pro are quite close in terms of what they offer. The Edge 70 Pro+ is the premium offering, thanks to its periscope telephoto camera and wireless charging support. Otherwise, it offers the same hardware as the Edge 70 Pro. So, when it comes to choosing between the two, the Edge 70 Pro+ is recommended for those who have cameras as a priority, especially zoom photography. However, if you’re okay with the absence of a telephoto lens, you’d be getting more or less the same experience on the Edge 70 Pro as you would with the Pro+. With the increasing price hikes, it would be wise to act quickly and grab the phone that you need among the two.
